Hi Everyone,

WAMUG needs to find a new host for our server. Our existing host
(ExtremeDSL) has been good to us over the years but for various
reasons can no longer provide us with the service. To that end, we
need to find another ISP who is willing to host the machine. Our
bandwidth requirements (sans the Mirrors site) are modest.

Worth investigating, lots of reasons.

Are you installing from Software Update or the iTunes site? The
iTunes download works. The Software Update version may not.

Capture single Video frame ??

2005-10-26 Thread Robert Howells

Hi Everyone,

Can somebody tell me what might be the best Software to use to Capture
from a Video stream

a single frame .

Have been trying to Capture/Save from a stream using VLC with limited
success .

It would be better if I could freeze and then advance frame by frame to
select the best frame .

Any ideas please

Bob

New machines just out!

2005-10-26 Thread info

Hi guys,

I have been looking over all of the message strings and haven't seen
any discussions regarding the new powerbooks or powermacs. Is
everyone simply disgusted or running to the stores to get one! What
do you guys think about the new powerbooks? Are they any different
than the superseded ones? Really?

Thanks

Alternative to Front Row

2005-10-26 Thread Rod

Hi All!

After reading all the whoohar about Front Row, I clicked on some links
in various forums and discovered this program:

http://www.centerstageproject.com/

Might be a better alternative for those who don't have a new iMac
(which is pretty much everyone at the moment!). Seems to be a lot more
programmable and use a lot of different video formats. Worth a look!

Help files.

2005-10-26 Thread Malcolm J McCallum
I do not know whether it is because I am getting old or because I am
short of grey matter (Betz cell concentration) but when ever I try to
use the help files I do not come up with the answer. :-( I am about
to transfer my mail onto a NEW powerbook G4 :-) so i thought I would
'archive', 'compress', 'store', 'retire' my current mailbox. Try
feeding that into help and you get F... A.. Help. I am aware that all
I need to do is ask the ever helpful gurus on the net and the answer
will be forth coming in the click of a mouse button. But seriously
folks why does Mail help point me in the right direction?

BTW how do I archive old mail?

All your mail files are kept inside ~/Library/Mail (the 'tilde' (~)
character refers to your Home Folder, so start there). You can
archive this entire folder in whichever way you see fit.

BTW - why are you not using the wonderful migration assistant built
into Tiger? It takes all the worry out of transferring old data to a
new Mac.

Hi Mac,

I'm 'hoping' to be in the same position as you very soon :-)

Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4: Transferring data with Setup Assistant /
Migration Assistant FAQ
Learn how some versions of Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant
(included with Mac OS X 10.4 or later, in the Utilities folder) can
easily transfer data from a previous Mac to a new one. This document
applies to Mac OS X 10.4 and computers that ship with Mac OS X 10.3.4
or later, such as Power Mac G5 (June 2004) computers. Setup/Migration
Assistant on these computers includes a data migration feature. The
data copied by the Assistant is not deleted from your previous Mac.

Cheers,
Ronni

Resellers locked out of voucher sales

Australian Authorised Apple resellers will have to wait until after
March 2006 before they can sell song vouchers for the Australian
iTunes Music Store according to a press release issued by Coles Myer
Ltd today:
Following today’s launch of the Australian version of Apple’s iTunes
Music Store, Coles
Myer is delighted to be the exclusive over-the-counter destination to
purchase iTunes

Music Cards until 28 February 2006.
The iTunes Music Cards will be available from today at Myer, Coles
Supermarkets,
Coles Express ($20 $50 cards only), Target, Kmart, BiLo, Megamart,
Officeworks

and Harris Technology.
One reseller who spoke to AppleTalk Australia understood why Apple
would sign such a deal on business level, although they felt that
closing the doors to others seems to be disappointing.

Huh?

So a person goes into Digilife in the CBD can't buy an iTunes music
card? The Store that says 'buy Apple here'. It seems like marketing
mistake if it's true.
