Re: Mac Mini with Mac OS Rom ?

2007-07-31 Thread Rod Lavington
Hi Bob,

Is it a PPC or Intel Mac Mini?

If its PPC, then it is likely that Classic needs to use the ROM. If it is
Intel, then it should not be there at all, seeing as Intel Macs cannot use
Classic (except with Sheepshaver).

Seeya

Rod!

Mac Mini with Mac OS Rom ?

2007-07-31 Thread Robert Howells

Hi Guys & Girls ,

The Mac Mini only ever boots in OSX ... RIGHT ?

So is there any reason for a copy of Mac OS Rom to be in the
System Folder

( other than it was installed in error from a different Mac systems
installer disk ? )

Thank you

Bob

New Software Updates: Security Update 2007-007, Airport Extreme Update 2007-4, Safari 3.03, iPhone 1.01

2007-07-31 Thread Kyle Kreusch
Hi all GMUG and WAMUG
Apple released the following soft were updates Last night

Security Update 2007-007
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306172

This up date patches the following security problems
bzip2, CFNetwork, CoreAudio ,cscope, gnuzip, iChat, Kerberos
mDNSResponder, PDFKit, PHP, Quartz Composer, Samba, SquirrelMail
Tomcat, WebCore, WebKit

Safari 3 Beta Update 3.0.3
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306174
Appears to fix problems with WebKit and dose not change any of safari
UI apparently

Airport Extreme Update 2007-4

Apple doesn't say much about what the update contains but does say it
"is recommended for all Intel-based MacBook, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini
computers and improves the reliability of AirPort connections

iPhone 1.01
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306173

And lucky last the iPhone because this up date dose not apply to
people in Australia just yet I am going to link to some news story's
for people who want to read more.

Maybe, but that does not explain why the fan roars - scary!

Scanner trouble with photoshop

2007-07-31 Thread Robert Howells

Hello everyone,

Thanks to those who responded about the CD for Epson 2400 .
I now have the disk , but am still in trouble .

Running 10.4.8 on a Mini with OS9.2.2 Classic .

I have loaded the latest drivers and tried a number of sequences , like
OS9 driver first , followed by OSX Driver , followed by SMart
Panel , etc , etc.

Absoluteley no joy with the Smart Panel .

So I can access the Scanner perfectly OK from Vuescan in OSX ,
or by Import via Twain from Photoshop 7 in OSX
or by Import via Twain from Graphic Converter in OSX

but NO joy from Photoshop 5.5 in ... OS9 ..

It should be possible because I can do it from my G5 ... with one
difference

I do not have Photoshop 7 .

Any suggestions gratefully received ... !

This is a help job for a struggling Mac user . who knows how to use
Smart Panel ,

but not so good on the other .

I get a message that the scanner is not installed . It's as though
the USB path has a hole in it !

Checked that it is not held by another App , and that appears to be
the case . ( NOT held )

?

Thanks

Bob
