I just hope its not something US-centric, like the iPhone.

I'm hoping for an update to the AppleTV. One update since its
release is pathetic :-( And the update mainly contained ways to stop
people hacking their AppleTVs, rather than expanding on the product
(YouTube addition was just to keep pace with the iPod Touch and the
iPhone).

Nice site though :-) Neat and tidy, rather than a billion banner
ads.

Re: Does RAM go bad?

2008-01-15 Thread Daniel Kerr
Yes, RAM can go bad after twelve months. I supply my clients with lifetime
warranty from Amicroe, and I've replaced RAM that was 6 years old straight
from the manufacturer no problems at all. So in my view, if you can get it
with a lifetime warranty for a few extra dollars,..do so. It might be worth
it.

Kind Regards
Daniel

 Hi All
You've got a watch with a lifetime warranty
lifetime warranty can mean anything from one year to five years on RAM

I haven't seen anyone offer more than five years under the spin-off
 lifetime warranty

How often would anyone need more than twelve months warranty on RAM?
If it works when you install it what are the chances of it going bad
later? I can imagine a watch breaking down, or a car (and I did
purchase Applecare for the iMac) but does RAM really deteriorate with
 time?

speech and window weirdness

2008-01-15 Thread Edward
Thanks to Ronni, David Moyle and Daniel for your help with my prob a
few day ago. The main issue not being able to restart or shutdown from
Apple menu.

I finally got it sorted. In the end I did a full rebootable backup and
erased the hard drive and reinstalled Leopard. Its a cleaner, faster
MacBook pro now. All's well that ends well.

I hope everyone enjoys the Macworld Expo keynote this morning. Here in
Melbourne its starts at 4am - to stay up or wake up? That is the
question!

Best wishes

Turnaround time on iMac repairs?

2008-01-15 Thread Shay Telfer

Hi...

Anyone been waiting a while for their flat panel iMac to be repaired?
The inlaws have been told there's no parts available (vertical lines
on the screen), so it may be 'a while'...

Thanks,
Shay

Is it just me, or is the Australian Apple store advertising the new Apple TV
as being able to download movies and TV shows?

When you go into the details though, it just says music and free podcasts.
Sheesh.

Mighty Mouse scroll fix

2008-01-15 Thread pweaver
Yesterday my cordless Mighty Mouse stopped scrolling upwards. Down,
left and right was fine.

Some people have reported similar problems in the past but their
fixes seemed to be total replacement of the device or interior
exploration with makeshift tools. Uh oh!

I found a suggestion on Apple's website which suggested wiping the
small ball with a damp cloth. I'd already discovered a dry cloth
doesn't work.

Guess what, the fix was immediate.

Just thought I'd pass this simple cure on, in case others fear the
worst at some time.

Cheers, Paul.

Re: Mighty Mouse scroll fix

2008-01-15 Thread Paul K
Hi Paul,

The problem with our mighty mice came once water was no longer capable
of cleaning the build-up.
This eventually led to detergent then solvents inc alcohol.
I believe the cleaning encourages corrosion in the components which
inevitably went haywire. And I *mean* haywire :-)
We are currently on our 4th 'Mighty' mouse.
Our current one came with our iMac, I will never go out and
deliberately buy one again.
We have given it to our iBook for light duties.
My hope is that there have been improvements in the design.

Cheers
Paul
