iPod song history

2008-08-28 Thread Antony N. Lord
I'm sure I've missed this somewhere - how do I view the songs that
I've played on my iPod (5th gen video, Windows formatted used under
OS X). Must be in there somewhere.

Google has not yielded an answer!

If you mean in iTunes:
View-View Options
Tick Last Played

Reverse sort by that column.

If you mean on the iPod itself... no idea.

You can connect to your WorkDESK database and work from home using
any of the
Remote Office hardware alternatives (Windows XP Pro Remote Desktop

Windows, Terminal Services, Citrix Metaframe). You can also access the
WorkDESK database using 'PC Anywhere' software - purchase separately).

So it sounds like you can use either of the free Microsoft Remote Desktop
Connection or CoRD to connect. (The equivalent of Timbuktu or Apple's
Remote Desktop)

http://cord.sourceforge.net/

Your connection needs to be through their VPN, so you'd need to know
what the connection details are. Namely the VPN server IP address and
the account name to use to log into it. Also, whether it's L2TP or
PPTP. You may also need a certificate from them depending on how it's
set up.

So, you could probably do it without resorting to
BootCamp/Parallels/VMWare, but you'd need some more info out of them
which may be more painful than just running Windows.

IPhone App Store encourages new affliction: Appiphilia
6:30 AM, August 26, 2008
For the last few weeks, I've been staying up late glued to my screen,
and frankly it has been wreaking havoc on my sleep patterns. No, not
watching the Olympics or the nonstop political gabfest on 24/7 news
channels.

I have been obsessively logging in to iTunes.

It's not about the songs, audiobooks, TV shows or movies. It's all
about the apps.

Hi, I'm Ken, I'm an appaholic. (group: Hi Ken.) I started with just
one app a day, then my addiction grew to the point where I had over
100 apps crowding my screen, and I had long forgotten what most of
them did. That didn't stop me, I kept downloading. I'd sneak a
download in the bathroom, and while at work when no one was looking. I
even downloaded while in church. (Forgive me, Father, for I have
downloaded.)

I visit the iTunes store every five minutes looking for new apps. My
thirst is insatiable.

I even went to a 12-step program for appaholics, but it didn't help.
We spent the two hours trading info about apps, tips and tricks, and
building our wish list for new apps. I even confessed that I might
like to become a developer to create and sell apps for the iPhone. No
matter that I don't know how to program. I didn't do a lot of things
before I owned an iPhone, but that hasn't stopped me. Before I go any
further, though, I'm going to make sure there's a 12-step program for
app developers. If there is, then I know I'll have a great resource
for app ideas and source code.

I tried to stop, but resistance is futile. Even the flashlight app
won't lead me out of this darkness. Apple, you've snagged my soul.
And, I love you for it.

2008-08-28 Thread Eugene

My name is Eugene and I'm an addict..

Yep I've caught the bug, fortunately I limit myself to free apps but
I will give strong hints for father's day that perhaps an iTunes gift
voucher may give me a quick fix.

It is interesting that I was on a forum and certain people were
slagging the iPhone. I suggested that the iPhone was going to set
itself apart because it was more like a portable computer and that if
would differentiate itself from other 'smart' phones including mobile
windows based ones simply because of the apps and the iTunes store.

Re: Accessing 3rd party database via VPN

2008-08-28 Thread Steven Knowles
Thanks to Neil H, Shay and Peter H for your thoughts on my query about
accessing Workdesk.

I've since found a little more info, after finding a Windows machine
on which to launch the software I've been given. The software sent to
me is Cisco's VPN Client, which has been sent to me in order to access
the server on which I presume a Workdesk application and database is
housed. So this VPN Client has nothing to do with WorkDesk itself.
It's just a means of accessing the remote server (I think?).

So would the MacOS have the functionality of Cisco's VPN Client built
into it? What prompts me to ask that question is that I notice within
my Mac's Network settings that there is a VPN (L2TP) option, which I
currently have set as inactive. Could I use these settings instead of
a 3rd party VPN Client?

Or, do I need to obtain a Mac version of VPN Client which, according
to http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/secursw/ps2308, does exist.

Apart from the Windows version of the VPN Client application, I've
been given a server and Workdesk login, and a Username and password.

Cheers, Steven

They are clearly Windows files, named as follows...

data1.cab
data1.hdr
data2.cab
DelayInst.exe
ikernel.ex_
installservice.exe
InstHelper.dll
layout.bin
Setup.bmp
Setup.exe
Setup.ini
setup.inx

Does this give anyone much of a clue as to what's actually being
installed, and should I be able to achieve the same thing on from my
Mac (running latest OS) without having to use Bootcamp or any
virtual Windows software? Workdesk are a closed shop when it comes
to Mac support or answering questions.

It's exactly the same except it doesn't have some of the advanced

Hi Barry

MacSpeech Can import directly into any cocoa application. I also
believe you can do the same thing for applications written in Carbon.

As I use Microsoft office here I am not 100% sure if open office.
Works as I believe it is written in Java And I'm not sure if MacSpeech
works with applications written in Java

Hope that helps someone else may have more information
