Optus

2008-09-06 Thread bill parker

Westnet 1 Optus Nil.

Why? Basic service from Optus is appalling. Why does one have to
scream and shout to get faults rectified and spend hours on the phone
in the process?

A fault was found by Telstra in the local system and rectified. I
was called by the Telstra man in the street with a quick explanation.

By then I had terminated my Optus account and switched to Westnet. 3X
speed and $40 a month cheaper.

My last email to Optus has not been answered. I demanded it be sent
higher up the commend chain and expressing that I might make
complaint to the ACCC under Section 52 of the Trade Practises Act
which covers false and misleading statements.

Nuff said. No reply.

Re: Unlocked iPhone bought in Australia works in UAE

2008-09-06 Thread Steven Knowles
Alex, apologies for delayed response. I just found this message, which
had slipped through the cracks and was spiraling towards the bottom of
my chronological inbox.

Voice mail? Same as in Australia. The carrier which I'm with,
Etisalat, has a service called Al Mersal, which is just a standard
voice mail.

Visual voice mail? I'm not sure if I even know what that is other than
guessing.

Cheers, Steven

How is voice mail handled. Is visual voice mail supported ?

I can now confirm that my Australian-bought iPhone, unlocked by
Optus, does work in Dubai, both voice and data, with an Etisalat SIM.

I did come across a shop in Dubai which is selling an unlocked G3
iPhone - but for about AUD $2,400 !

Cheers, Steven

Re: iPhone purchase [advice]

2008-09-06 Thread Leon Shaffer

Hi Dudley,

Have you checked out Virgin Mobile's iPhone offers?

They use the Optus network, (they are owned by Optus).

16GB Black: $74 per month

Incl : $520 in calls
1GB if data (There is also an offer that if 1GB is not enough you
could buy and extra 1GB for $15 per month.)

I got my unit from Allphones and they had lots of stock on hand.

Regards
Lee

G'day

I would also be interested in advice from any of those who have
taken the plunge.

It seems to me, and I may be wrong:

- you'll get the best speed from Telstra
- you'll get the best coverage from Telstra
- you'll get a phone right away from Telstra (witness the full page
press ads)
- you'll have to wait for a phone from Optus because their plans are
clearly superior to Telstra's

And I haven't figured out whether to forget about the big 2 and go
for one of the others.

Hi there

I have been on list on and off for many years but rarely do I ask
advice. However I'm confused. Could not find the answer in the
archives or iPhone Central.

I know that life is not simple and straight forward but.

I've read all the guff, scanned all the hype and muddled over the
spread sheets but no solution.

Where is the best place to 'buy' an iPhone. What is the best plan
to use and the best telco.
