Thanks Peter, that appears to be it.
This is a G5 (non intel), so appears an Intel component has been
written in an update.

Hi Severin

If the window you have open are the contents of the disk or drive, this will
close when you eject the disk.
Just check what is showing when you close it,..as this might be what you're
seeing, hence you only see it sometimes.

downsizing dvd's

Now that i managed to get my dvd's into i-tunes , what is the best  
way to downsize my movies in the i- tunes library?

I'm thinking of getting an i-pod down the track.

f-keys on Keyboard

from the PC.Does anyone know theconversion fron PC to mac F- 
keys?...as well as shortcutstrokes on Pc to Mac?
