Re: OS update 10.5.7

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this board and this is my first post.

I just updated to 10.5.7 using Software Update, and also got the IEEE
firmware update too. Everything went well, with no problems whatsoever.

slow web connection

2009-05-12 Thread gary dorn

for the past 2 weeks we've had really slow web service.

just after I played around with my Airport settings and ADSL router
firmware upgrade to see if I could get BacktoMyMac working.

its slow on all 3 computers - G4 via airport 10.4.11, mac book via
airport 10.5.6, MacPro via ethernet 10.5.6

configuration is Netgear DG834 4 port ADSL router ( now with firmware
version V3.01.32 ( I updated from v1.1 I think?) with

ADSL Firmware Version 5.00.03.00
Modem StatusConnected
DownStream Connection Speed 1536 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 64 kbps
VPI 8
VCI 35

AirPort Extreme 802.11n
version 7.4.1
Using DHCP
connection sharing Off (Bridge mode)

if more than a couple of tabs are open, opening a new page will
often say - "cannot find - not connected to the the web!"

Any thoughts please on what I need to do to get it back to running
how it was before - which was mostly fast enough..

thanks

Everything with the 10.5.7 install went as smooth as silk here. Same thing with

Double cheers, Paul.

Hi Mac,

You don't need to do anything or worry about these messages, they
are harmless and should be ignored.

Hi Susan,

I haven't had any problems since installing OS X 10.5.7. I did
install the Combo, I didn't install using Software Update.

I always install the Combo versions of OS updates. The Mac OS X
Update Combo is 729MB size.
It installed without any hiccups and I have not experienced any
problems so far.

It took approx. 14 mins to install and does two restarts (so don't
panic when it seems to hang a bit after the first restart).

Cheers,
Ronni

I have just updated through Software Update with no problems. I did
take the precaution of repairing permissions before the update, which
is standard advice for any system update anyway.

2009-05-12 Thread Susan Hastings
Hi Ronni, well, have installed the combo update, and have had the two
restarts, and all is well so far.

David, the combo update is a combined updater which can update any
version of 10.5 to 10.5.7. I don't seem to have the link in my history
list, if Ronni doesn't beat me to it, i'll have a look around and see
if I can find it. I think I got the link from a discussion site.

regards, Susan.

OT? Job Opportunity

2009-05-12 Thread Stuart Evans
Hello all,

Sorry to post here, but it might be more effective than the newspapers have
been. I hope you don't mind.

We have a IT Support Technician role available in our Bunbury Office. A good
part of the role is providing Mac service (we are the Authorised Apple
Service Centre in Bunbury), so the successful person needs to either be a
Mac Certified Technician or have good experience with Mac and be prepared to
do the study and get certified ASAP (no cost).
A larger part of the job at present is providing Windows support around the
South-West. As you all know, Macs are easy to use etc etc, so we get very
little 'support' work for Apple products other than break/fix service
because Mac users are so savvy and they also have wonderful user groups! ;-)

We provide a lot of support for schools in the South-West (we have a
contract with the Education Department) plus we support a number of
businesses. We are also bringing more of the Apple experience to the
schools!

We are very big on customer service, being real, keeping it (IT) simple and
being down to earth (no BS).

There is a bit of travel involved being 'country' so a reliable car is
required. Standard hours, usual conditions, good remuneration and a great
company to work for with a wonderful boss. (Maybe that's pushing it too
much?) ;-)

So in summary, we would like someone who is self sufficient, likes a
challenge, loves technology, has experience in supporting Windows Server
(2003 preferably) and all the networking services, Windows networks and
clients, Cisco experience is helpful, Apple Mac experience and enthusiasm,
good customer service (down to earth and personable) and communication, and
willing to travel (ie drive around the beautiful South-West instead of
slowly up and down the Mitchell Freeway).

If you, or someone you know, might be interested in this position/role,
could you (or they) please email a resume and cover 'letter' to me at
stuart.ev...@t4.com.au and I will be in touch.

Thank you!

Regards,
Stuart

Re: OS update 10.5.7

2009-05-12 Thread Susan Hastings
Hi Ronni, that's good news, I have just finished downloading the Combo
update as it does appear to be the safest route.

I don't usually worry too much as we have about four Macs at home, and
if one is having problems I don't feel stuck. But, we are in China
until July 6th, and here in Chongqing there don't appear to be any
places that service Macs, so don't want want to risk my one and only
Mac.

Or, I suppose I could fly home - "sorry darling, I have to fly home
because my Mac is sick". It would not go over well!

regards, Susan.
