Re: Epson Stylus Pro 3880

2010-07-14 Thread Neil Houghton

!! CORRECTION!!

Following up on this - with my original URLs (using computer name) some
links (eg the Admin page) gave "403 forbidden" errors.

Rob Davies' post pointed me in the right direction - use "local host"
(thanks Rob!)

For completeness, I have corrected my original post (below) to reflect this
but, as Rob says, you can probably just cut to the heart of it by going
direct to the Administration page at:

Rob's experience is that deleting the existing job(s) in the queue usually
clears the problem.

One thing I sometimes find works when things hang is just to pause the
printer and then resume it.

Good luck!

Hi Rosalyn,

I don't know if it will help, but you can check various aspects of the
printer/print queue by using your browser to look at the CUPS area (behind
the scenes in the Mac OS) - easier to do than to explain!

The following URLs are relevant:

takes me to the top level (home) for CUPS which
presents links to lots of info about CUPS. Clicking on the "Printers" tab
(or directly inputting the following URL) takes me to:

which gives a list of installed printers
(in my case, at present, just one Canon iP4000) and their status (in my
case, current status for the Canon is "Idle")

You can then click on the actual "Queue Name" for your printer which will
take you to the actual page for that printer - in my case:

Which gives a bit more description - ie "Canon_iP4000 (Idle, Accepting Jobs,
Shared)

Obviously your set-up would give you printer name, rather than the Canon.

As I say, I don't know if it will help you - but some of the status
descriptions may give some pointer to your problem.

Cheers

Neil

Hey Rob, thanks for that tip. Our Epson 510 was out of yellow ink and
we knew others were running low but the ink status monitor showed as
being disabled. I switched the printer off, unplugged the usb,
switched it on and replugged the cable, and voila ink levels show
again. Hmm, well now we're off to buy 5 new cartridges!

Thanks for the tip. I hope Rosalyn solves her problem just as easily.

Most USB things come to life with that sort of basic method. The hot plugging
in kind of wakes things up again and the turning off and on makes sure the
printer is not in a error state.
Glad I could help.

Changing 'hourly scale' in Entourage

2010-07-14 Thread Rob Phillips

Hi everyone

Perhaps this is just a Microsoft 'feature', but I live in hope...

I'm using Microsoft Entourage 2008 V12.2.5 (100505) with OS 10.6.4 for
calendaring.

I use the weekly view, so I can see all days of the week. In this view,
I can only see 12 hours of the day.  I can scroll up and down, but I
can't overview more than 12 hours. This is a hassle because I have some
early morning entries and some evening entries, and I can't see them
all. I'd like to change the scaling of the hourly scale so I can see
more hours in a day.  I can't find a way to do this.  I can resize the
Entourage Window, but this does scale the hours, so I still see
only 12 hours.

If anyone can understand what my problem is (:-|) I'd appreciate ideas
about how to solve it.

Regards
Rob

Hi Rob, I am an ex-Entourage user and am now a Mail and iCal convert,
but I am forced to use Outlook in my work environment due to the work
platform chosen - this is the view upon which Entourage has been cloned
from. However, in MS Outlook there is Tools>Options>Preferences>Calendar
Options which may direct you to some way of presenting the screen to
meet your needs. Not 100% sure this will work for you, but the best I
can suggest given my history with Entourage.

Re: Changing 'hourly scale' in Entourage

2010-07-14 Thread Daniel Kerr

Hi Rob

Unfortunately you can't change it I'm afraid. I find my Calendar view on my
15" MacBookPro will display about 18 hours with the Window as big as
possible. (Though I actually use iCal for the Calendar, I only use Entourage
for email).
This link has some ideas to "work around it" though.

Nothing super, but some may be of help.

It's strange though, as in iCal you can tell it your "working day" is
longer, and it will then shrink the hours to fit in one Window.
I tried this in Entourage (Entourage menu - Preferences - Calendar) and
changed the work hours from 9am-5pm to 5am to 9pm and it didn't change the
view. (So not as good as iCal) :O(

Sorry can't offer more advice then that,...but yes,..seems to be a
"feature".

Hope that helps.

Kind Regards
Daniel
