Re: iPhoto library will not load

2011-08-27 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Douglas,

Make sure you “Restore” the iPhoto Library correctly using the ‘working iPhoto
Library’ in Time Machine backup.
You are running OS X 10.6.8, I can’t see where you mention what version of
iPhoto, but if it is iPhoto’09 or ’11

To Restore your entire iPhoto library.

1. Quit iPhoto.

2. Open the folder containing your iPhoto library.
Home > Pictures > click iPhoto Library once (to highlight)

3.. Then ‘Enter Time Machine'.
Use the Time Line to go back to the ‘correctly’ working iPhoto Library

4.. Click on the library and hit Restore.

To open Time Machine, click its icon in the Dock, or click the Time Machine
icon in the menu bar and choose Enter Time Machine.

Cheers,
Ronni

Re: iPhoto library will not load

2011-08-27 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Douglas,

Yes, unfortunately going the Manual Rebuild:
"Note: The manual rebuild procedure does not preserve metadata such as album
names, sorting, or comments. It may also introduce duplicates into the iPhoto
library. After importing the photos you may want to reorganize and reedit the
contents of your new iPhoto library from within the iPhoto application.”

You have a back up of your iPhoto Library when it was working correctly?
The most simple solution right now would be to restore your back up.

Do you have a Time Machine ‘Backup’ of your iPhoto Library when it was working
correctly?
If so Time Machine can “Restore” the backup it created. You MUST use the TM
interface and the ‘Restore’ button.

Cheers,
Ronni

Re: iPhoto library will not load

2011-08-27 Thread Douglas Sheerer
Thanks Alex for the link.

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2638 link

I finished up having to do a manual rebuild., and have managed to get images
back into iPhoto be it all in the one folder!
When I follow up with performing the 'Tip' part, iPhoto wants to import images
again as duplicates rather than just the organisational source list??
cheers
Douglas

Tip: Inside the Originals and Modified folders are subfolders organized by
date, and then by "film roll" or event. You can drag these folders one at a
time to the iPhoto icon in the Dock to import them and retain this organization
in your source list.

Additional Information
Performing a "Manual rebuild"

If the rebuild option in iPhoto does not resolve your issue, you can manually
reimport the photos into a new iPhoto library.

While holding down the option key on the keyboard, open iPhoto.
When prompted, select the option to create a new library.
Select a new location for the library, name and save it. Give the new library a
different name than the original library to avoid confusion.
From the iPhoto menu, choose Hide iPhoto.
Locate the original iPhoto Library folder in the Finder.
Right-click or control-click the iPhoto library icon and select "Show package
contents" from the menu.
In the window that appears, you should see two important folders, "Originals"
and "Modified".
Drag the Originals folder onto the iPhoto icon in your Dock. This imports the
original photo files that you imported into the original iPhoto library.
You can also drag the Modified folder onto the iPhoto icon in your Dock. This
will copy over all edited versions of images you have previously worked on,
including those which have been edited automatically (such as auto-rotated
images which have been edited and then imported from your camera).
Note: Importing both your Modified and Original folders into a new library will
result in both the original and edited version of each image, if applicable,
showing up in your new iPhoto library.

Tip: Inside the Originals and Modified folders are subfolders organized by
date, and then by "film roll" or event. You can drag these folders one at a
time to the iPhoto icon in the Dock to import them and retain this organization
in your source list.

Note: The manual rebuild procedure does not preserve metadata such as album
names, sorting, or comments. It may also introduce duplicates into the iPhoto
library. After importing the photos you may want to reorganize and reedit the
contents of your new iPhoto library from within the iPhoto application.

Hi Douglas,

Sorry I didn’t notice you had tried iPhoto Library Manager :-(

When you hold down the Command-Option keys while launching iPhoto, in the
resulting dialogue to Rebuild, choose to “Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from
automatic backup only”?

Hi Ronni,

As I mentioned before I have already tried to rebuild the iPhot library
(34.43gb) with iPhoto Library Manager.
Dialogue box states 'Cannot rebuild. This library cannot be rebuilt because the
xml file contains no image records'
Package contents reveals many folders and images.

Hi Douglas,

If there are photos in the Library, then Download iPhoto Library Manager and
use its rebuild function.
This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file.

NOTE: Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars,
for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.

Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one
untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you
can simply return to your old one.

Hi Alan,

Are you sure you were not in the "iTunes for Windows" discussions?
Right-Click and 'Run As Administrator' sounds like Windows.

Re: iPhoto library will not load

2011-08-27 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Douglas,

Are there photos in the Library?

If there are photos in the Library, then Download iPhoto Library Manager and
use its rebuild function.
This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file.

NOTE: Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars,
for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.

Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one
untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you
can simply return to your old one.

Cheers,
Ronni

Hi Blitto,

How big is your Hard Drive?
How much Free space do you have on your Hard Drive?

I have a 750GB HD
My /Library is 22.33GB Size with 57,373 Items
My ~Library is 6.29GB Size with 73,797 Items

If you don’t have 25% - 30% free space on your Hard Drive a ‘clean up’ is
required, or a larger Hard Drive.
My 750GB HD has 563.59GB free … and I like to keep it around this size ;-)

2011-08-27 Thread Alan Smith
Thanks Tim and Ronni

Fantastic clairvoyance!Just had a similar problem this morning after iTunes
10.4.1 update and syncing of iPad2 with new photo events.

Found a rather cryptic Apple Communities thread that advised (without step by
instructions) to delete the iPod cache folder AND to "Right click on itunes
program and set to run always as an administrator". Other people found this
last item to be essential. I didn't do it as (a) it worked without it and (b)
I couldn't find where to do it anyway.

Re: iPad and iPhoto syncing

Hi Tim,

iPhoto 8.1.2 is iPhoto’09 … sorry I left the ‘ out of 09 :-)
iPhoto 9.1.5 is iPhoto’11, it does make things a little difficult when Apple
don’t use the year as version number.

Glad your iPad is happily syncing again.

Thanks Ronni,

I am using iPhoto 8, but nevertheless, this solution has worked.

Late last night when I was checking the Apple Discussion, I read that the iPad
cache was in iPhoto Application package - which it wasn't.

What I've read more clearly this morning, or maybe it was incorrect in the
Apple Support Forums, from your message was to open the iPhoto Library package,
and there it was. So, thanks for your help, the iPad is happily syncing away
now.

iPad and iPhoto syncing

2011-08-27 Thread Tim Law

Hello

I have an iPad 1 running 4.3.5 and have been successfully syncing it with
iTunes 10.4.1 and iPhoto 8.1.2
The iTunes is running on a Mac Mini running 10.7.1

I also sync this same iTunes with my iPhone4 with no problems and up until a
week ago had no problems with the iPad photo syncing either. I believe the same
set of photos are set to sync with the iPhone4

The only problem I am having is the iPhoto syncing. When the iPad is on the
last stages of syncing, after going through all the app updates, music etc., it
moves onto Photos. I get an error message "The required file cannot be found"
and the sync stops.

If I turn OFF sync photos, the sync completes normally and there is no problem.

I have rebuild the iPhoto database.
I have restored the iPad software and reloaded from the latest backup.

I have tried to identify which particular photo might be the problem by using
Console, but it does not seem to show that depth of detail.

Is there a way of identifying which photo is the problem so I can deal with
this problem?

Thanks

Tim
