Re: Maps flyover now in Perth

2014-03-21 Thread Ronda Brown
Perth City became available for the 3D Flyover feature in Apple Maps around the
18 March 2014. I noticed it when I used the Maps App to check on a location in
Fremantle awhile back.
It uses data provided mainly by TomTom, and a Chinese mapping company.

Great feature finally available in Perth. Previously it was only Sydney &
Melbourne in Australia.

Cheers,
Ronni

I see Newman WA does not show 'flyover' mode where I am. I doubt it ever will.
No great loss.

Maps flyover now in Perth

2014-03-21 Thread Peter Hinchliffe
I made an interesting and exciting discovery last night, and I'm surprised that
I haven't seen it mentioned in the text press or even on the WAMUG List. If it
has been mentioned here and all this is now old hat, I apologise.

You may or not know that the Maps App (it's on your MacBook Pro, as well as
your iPad and your iPhone) has a feature called "Flyover" which gives you a
wonderful 3D view from above of the map you're looking at. All buildings, trees
and other features leap out of the screen at you as you "fly" over them. Until
very recently, the feature did not work in Perth. You had to go to large US or
European cities to see it work. It also worked for Sydney (and maybe others) in
Australia, but not Perth. Well now it does! I haven't seen this announced
anywhere, or heard from anyone else that they've discovered it, but work it
does. The effect extends from the Kwnana industrial area in the south to just
south of Mindarie Keys in the north. It covers Rottnest island to the west, and
I haven't found far to the east it goes, but it does certainly cover Kalamunda.
I've had a good look around local universities and hospitals, Kings Park, the
Darling Scarp. my local neighbourhood, flown up and down the
 freeway, etc.

I've found an interesting experience with overseas cities, but I find it
fascinating looking at the local content. There are a few rendering problems
when zooming very close into some buildings, but by and large the objects are
quite highly detailed, including clear signage. I was doubtful that we would
ever really see this in Perth. It seems that with this, together with other
recent publicity, we are now well and truly on the Map!

To use Flyover iPad or iPhone, simply make sure your map is set to use Hybrid
or Satellite mode, then click or tap the 3D button (this may look like a
collection of three buildings, depending on your interface). Use pinch and
spread to zoom in and out, and two fingers to navigate around.

It works slightly differently in Mavericks, but it's well explained in the Help
file.

Hi Mike,

The Mail "Get Account Info" window shows messages sorted by 'Size' now.
I guess so it is easier to delete large messages that are going to flood an
email account.

Re: Apple ID

2014-03-21 Thread Diana & Graham Stevens
Hi Daniel

Thanks for the suggestions, I shall try to work it out when I am compos mentis
again. If I fail I shall get you to sort it.

Graham and I have never bought equipment from the on-line Apple Store before,
we have always used retailers, though I have purchased from Apps and iTunes on
my iPad. This morning I used Graham's 'new' ID to make my purchase and in doing
so worked out what went wrong yesterday, I should have used the email address
and not our names.

I still don't understand why Apple's reply went to the wrong email address and
why the account now appears to belong to me rather than both of us. I will need
to sort this as I intend to swap all my mailing lists to my main box and give
up using that address.

Thanks again and best wishes from Diana

Apple Mail - Get Ac info -sort pane by name or date

2014-03-21 Thread Michael Anderson
Dear Wamugers

Previously in mail when you selected the Settings wheel, then "Get Account
Info" at the very bottom of the Mailboxes/ Email folders (left hand side), you
were taken to a screen showing all the emails still on the mail server for that
email POP account. In this screen previously it was easy to identify and then
delete messages which you may not wish to download to another device.
Basically this is still the case, except for one frustrating thingy.

I now find I cannot sort this list - by Subject or by Date Received or any
other option. Previously just by clicking on the top banner for one of the
headings (as with most Apple directories) the screen would be sorted into that
classification; eg Subject or Date Received.

It was a very useful feature for sorting for a particular string or dates to
delete.

Do I need to turn something ON?

Is there a way to again activate this option?

Re: Apple ID

2014-03-21 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi Diana

Sounds like you've had some fun with AppleID's. They can be a bit of work
sometimes ;)
First thing I'd probably start with is looking on each device and see what
AppleID is being used where for the AppleStore. Then if need be, once you have
them listed you could sign out of the different ID's and sign in with the
combined one. (You wouldn't need to do iCloud, as you do want those using
different IDs).
Once you have them listed, then yes, you should be able to log out/ in and
change or adjust them to make them one again.

Hope that helps.
(If you still get stuck, then I'm happy to have a look at it as well if easier).

Kind regards
Daniel
