Re: Word

2020-04-21 Thread Alan Smith
Hi Bill,

I have Office 2011 and the latest (2019?) versions. Any fraction can be
entered in both versions. I assume Word 2016 has the same process. But as
Peter said in an earlier email, the actual Microsoft process is not at all user
friendly. I have had no problems with simple entries.

The MS method can be accessed by the standard top menu bar via “Insert >
Equation”. Alternative access is via the document multi-function menu system
starting with “Insert > Equation”. It now gets complicated. I would ignore
the text box “type equation here” that is inserted and select “Fraction” from
the expanded document menu. This displays various formats for entering
fractions such as - or / for the two parts. THEN you can type in the two
numbers in a displayed fraction-formatted text box. Plus lots of other options
that you might explore when you have a spare hour or so.

Have fun,
Alan

The Character Set contains characters for only ½, ¼, ¾, ⅓ and ⅔. For anything
else, you'll have find either a dedicated font or create your own fractions
using super/subscript and kerning adjustments, probably along the lines of
Peter Faulks’ suggestion.

Re: Word

2020-04-21 Thread Peter Faulks

Hello

I had much the same problem so I created a document to show how to
make fractions but at the end I just created my own fraction set
which you can type in the fraction components then copy and paste the
fraction into your document it solves 1/3 1/5 problems
the file you need is on my teacher resources mathematics page (also
on the miscellaneous page)
