Re: Interesting read regarding AV Software

2020-06-08 Thread Ronni Brown
Hi Stephen and Marcus,

/quote

There are viruses written for the Mac, iPhones and iPads, they do exist but
Apple is successful at deflecting them because Apple expends a huge effort in
keeping their customers safe, protecting customer privacy via an effective
multi layer defense system built into many layers of the operating system
(which deflects viruses, hackers and other malware).

Apple responds very quickly to new virus threats, automatically updating all
Mac, iPhone and iPad users around the world immediately and invisibly. If you
have Automatic Updates” turned on (which is the normal setting for all users),
then you will receive updated virus protection, invisibly, the same day that
Apple releases it. This is why there is no *Active* virus/malware in the Apple
community, so there is nothing to worry about.

 Hi Marcus,

I most certainly agree with Alex, I read all a...@macmyths.com and it
doesn’t change my mind. I’ve never had any Malware on my computers and I
would not recommend installing Norton AV on any Mac computer.

It is not required and will most likely slow your computer to a crawl.

Hi Marcus.
I used to use Intego which did slow down my Mac.
But I have had no noticeable slow down with Avast.

However I do recommend the Premium (paid) version.

Re: Getting iMac to Sleep

2020-06-08 Thread Ronni Brown
Hi Adam,

Are you able to sleep it manually using the sleep command in the Apple Menu or
is that also not working?

In system preferences > Energy Saver - “Computer Sleep” slider. If a slider is
set to ‘Never’, sleep is disabled for that feature.
Check :
Turn display off after is not set to Never
Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off is not
checked
Wake for network access is not checked
The three settings above can prevent or disrupt your Mac from going to or
remaining in sleep. Additionally, you might want to click on the “Schedule…”
button to make sure you haven’t accidentally set a schedule for when your Mac
goes to sleep or wakes up. Worst case scenario, hit the “Restore Defaults”
button to restore all settings to their default value.

Another thing you could check.
Do you have Internet Sharing turned on?

Kind Regards,
Ronni
