Hi, I have just bought an iMac that is running Monterey 12.7.4 and I am having problems with file sharing it to another iMac running High Sierra 10.13.6.
I have file sharing on on both in System Preferences. On the Monterey iMac on it says it can be reached and and gives me the smb - gateway address. When I go to Finder>go>Connect to Server on the High Sierra iMac, the Monterey iMac smb - gateway address doesn’t show. (My other ones do.) I click Browse and instead of it finding and displaying the smb - gateway in the Connect to Server window, Server Address, it opens a new Network window with : Remote Volumes> Network>Mac>MattiMac2015 (theMontereyiMac) and and arrow allowing me to open more files, which if I click on it show me the HD name and my User Name But also listed under Remote Volumes is My User name “Matt”, when I click on that it lists all the main folders, Applications, Calibre Library, Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Incomplete, Library, Media, Movies, Music, Pictures, Sites, To be Worked on. All of them open and show the various sub folders and files EXCEPT: Desktop, Documents & Downloads. Desktop & Documents folders have a small triangle next to their names but nothing opens when clicking on it, the Downloads folder does not have the triangle instead it has an arrow in the bottom right hand corner. If anyone is able to let me know how to find the smb - gateway address via the Server Address in the Connect to Server window that would be great. And if anyone can let me know how to make the Desktop, Documents and Downloads folder show their contents, (Documents being the priority in sharing), just as the other are, well at least that would be a secondary way of connecting the two iMacs if I can’t do it via smb - gateway. Take care. Matt
