Re: Appleworks
I just can't stop using AppleWorks. I can produce work far more more quickly than with any other applicaton. I'm trying to make more use of Pages but keep reverting to AppleWorks. Even went so far as to buy a Windows version from the US so that I could make more use of it at school. I just miss the search function from the Clippings. I still have my students using it and many seem to prefer it over MS Office. I doubt if it came from outside Apple; I think it probably arose when someone at Apple realised that they could combine the original MacPaint and MacDraw with a word processor and the other functions into one program. The problem was that even in doing that, they discarded very useful features - for example MacDraw had layers, which could be paint or draw layers with a range of options to collapse them to produce the final view - a very powerful approach which I have not come across in any current software. The other interesting thing about ClarisWorks was that they made a PC version - I used to use it at work where I did not have access to a Mac. I do not think it made a big impression in the PC world, however; even if the typical PC user could see its advantages, they often had a pathological inhibition about buying anything created by Apple. Just to add to Reg's links, The Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_Indian_Ocean_earthquake has more statistics and information about this terrible disaster. Your BBC News animated link at: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/4136289.stm is wonderful. Sadly it's a graphic tool demonstrating the absolute power of nature. From the ioc.unesco website I found this link which is scary too. http://neic.usgs.gov/neis/bulletin/bulletin.html Not having seen this database before, and having no scientific (or other) knowledge of the prevalence of earthquakes, I found this log of the Worldwide Earthquake Activity in the Last Seven Days *sobering*. Re: Power Mac 6200/75 Case
being the proud owner of one of those i can tell you how. If you look under the faceplate at the front of the box, you'll see a couple of lugs. use a screwdriver or a strong pen to push them up while you pull the plate forward. It should now come off and reveal the floppy and cd drive and below the floppy a plate behind which you'll find your hard disk which you can unhook and slide out. have fun jon Jon Bjorn Jonsson, M.Ed.
