Hi Juliet, Firstly, Pages is not the best Application for really large documents. Are you using Pages’09 (version 4.1)? Are you using Snow Leopard? If you are using Pages’09: A pages document is an archive - unfortunately in the latest version (iwork09) it is not signed as such anymore, the trick is to rename the file to.zip and unpack the zip file. Then it is possible to see if the “index.xml is there, or if it is renamed to something different such as index-new.xml or “index.xml.gz (the name of course will appear without quotation marks). 1. Press the [control] key and click on the ‘bad’ Pages file. 2. Scroll to ‘Get Info’ and select it In the ‘Name Extension’ box, delete the .pages extension so that myfilename.pages reads “myfilename.zip” You will receive a message window “Are you sure you want to change the extension from “.pages” to “.zip”? Select ‘Use .zip” (Don’t worry we’ll put the extension back to “.pages” when we are done. 3. The file will now display as a folder containing multiple files, on your desktop (if that is where you selected to save the file) 4. Open the Folder and inside will be all the files contained within the Pages document. Scroll down and see if “index.xml” is there, or one named as I mentioned above. (without quotation marks) 5. If the file is named “index-new.xml” or “index.xml.gz”, change the extension to .xml 6. Then change the Name on the Folder back to the original by adding the extension “.pages” (without the quotations) You will receive the message window: “Are you sure you want to add the extension “.pages” to the end of the name” Select “Add” 7. Your pages document should now show as your Pages document icon again. 8. Double click it and see if it opens in Pages Application now. Right click on the song you are going to make into a ringer and select “Get Info.” 2. Go to the options tab and go down to the “Start Time” and “Stop Time” check boxes. Check both boxes and input the time you want your ringer to start/stop. The ringer has to be 30 seconds or less. Click OK when you’re done. 3. Right click on your newly “clipped” song and select “Convert Selection to AAC.” The song will be re-encoded using the start and stop times determined (If your menu item does not read “Convert Selection to AAC” and reads “Convert Selection to MP3″ (or some other format); go to iTunes Preferences Advanced Importing and change the “Import Using” drop down menu to “AAC Encoder”). 4.After the song is done encoding navigate to your iTunes Music folder, locate your song, and drag it to your desktop. After the song is on your desktop go back to iTunes and delete the clipped version from you iTunes library (It won’t delete it from your desktop, it will only remove it from iTunes). 5. Go back the song on your desktop and right click on your song and chose “Get info.” Go to the name and extension section and change the extension from .m4a to .m4r (or you can just change the extension right from your desktop) 6. After the extension is changed simply double click on the file to add it to your iTunes library under the ringtones section. Sync your phone with iTunes and you’re done! *Remember to go back into iTunes and uncheck your custom start and stop times for the original version of your song.* * * Cheers, Ronni 17 MacBook Pro Intel Core i7 2.66GHz / 4GB / 1067 MHz DDR3 / 500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200rpm OS X 10.6.3 Snow Leopard Windows 7 Ultimate (under sufferance) -- -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:wamug-unsubscr...@wamug.org.au -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:wamug-unsubscr...@wamug.org.au

I only get on the email account i send and read this every other day or so I had been using firefox for a very long time leaving safari unused Then for whatever reason Firefox was getting sluggish in loading and i thought I would do a compare with safari and it was indeed going faster. But the 'death' was a sudden overnight one a week or so back. Intel rebooting
Wamuggers, I have an early 2006 Intel 20 inch which I needed to re-boot with the two bootup disks (10.4.4 dvds), and the re-install keeps hanging up with a message of an error and need to re-install. It (the computer) never succesffuly carried out the smc firmware update (862 kb) that hangs around in the software update page - I'm wondering whether the two issues might be linked ? If possible - I might need an offline conversation (with any willing participant) as there might be other pre-existing conditions inspired by the initial transfer of some things from the old G3 600 mhz to the Intel on startup. thanks in advance to anyone with any ideas - on wamug or offline Tom Hogarth
Re: Intel rebooting
Fellow wamuggers - it appears that the fault lies in a faulty install disk. Interesting time on the phone with the Apple people - because it is over 90 days etc. Oh well, nothing like long phonecalls to resolve nothing! Tom Hogarth

Re: National Australia Bank
Yes - NAB does warn about these, and tells you to ignore and do not respond to them at all, as no bank would send emails such as that anyway! I do bank with the National and they do not contact clients via email. They will send requests or information via their web-site notice board, once you have logged into their online banking site you have access to it. It is a phishing email, simple way to deal with them is to mark as SPAM and hopefully your email client or server will filter it accordingly, preventing others to filter through. Also if you feel so annoyed by such an email you can contact the bank via their addresses on National Bank web site. Not much they can do about it except warn customers. Peder, Kevin et al, Unsolicted patches for a start sounds v fishy. Having never registered with them for anything, as with others.
