Well, for my part, I have renewed my .Mac account. I really feel that I
have covered the cost of subscription with the various software deals
which have come through during the year, but the most valuable part to
me is access to Home Page through iPhoto. The time saved in putting
family photos to the web using this service, has more than paid for
itself, especially as other members of the family can do it as well
when they're here. Sure, I could use the WAMUG site, but this would
mean designing and maintaining something by hand, and would
consequently much more difficult for others to use (not to mention the
fact that I would actually have to get around to doing it!).

Mind you, I would have a completely different attitude if I didn't have
a broadband account, in which case I don't think .Mac would be useable.

Mac because I prefer it -- Windows because I have to.

WAMUG now has pretty large and reliable Email accounts available to
financial members. If you spoke to someone on the committee I'm sure
they would be able to arrive at some kind of deal for server space too.
I'm sure the costs involved wouldn't be anywhere near as much as a
.Mac account and everything is done local too. So it will run faster
and you won't have to pay for download on broadband (WAIX).

I'm sure one of the committee members will discuss this further, on
list, so that the rest of you thinking about .Mac may be enlightened.

Hi

Part of my ruminations over coffee this morning included whether or
not to

renew my .Mac subscription - due 9 October and costing AUD$189.

Last year I took advantage of the introductory offer at US$50 (approx
AUD$100 at the time). After the free AUD$100 Apple Store voucher, it
was a
pretty good deal :-) Some of the later freebies were also nice but
they
were mostly games, which I don't generally play. I do use the normal
.Mac
facilities - mail, server space, publishing photos etc though I have
never

really been able to get Backup to work.

So my questions are:

-has anybody seen any special offers to renew ? I have already ticked
off

the free Sims game although I doubt whether I'll ever play it.

- are there any good deals going on the boxed .Mac subscription. I've
noticed that the online Streetwise store is selling it for $169.
