Conversion of Quark 4.1 file

2005-09-02 Thread Mike Murray

Hi listers

Thanks to all who offered help with converting my .dat 'Quark' file.
Kelly Duffy was first cab off the rank and successfully converted it
to an inDesign file (using inDesign as the tool). It turns out I
could have done so myself as I've just bought inDesign. And thanks
Craig for the explanation of the file type.

Problem solved, now moving on...

Cheers
Mike

Conversion of Quark 4.1 file

2005-09-01 Thread Mike Murray

Hi all

I've received a small file from a colleague ( abusiness card) said to
be created in Quark 4.1. the file has the extension .dat

Any Quark users out there able to convert it into something I could
read? In Design CS2, Pagemaker 6.52, Word or even PDF would do.

Thanks in advance

Mike

Let me guess ... winmail.dat ?

If so, your colleague most likely uses MS Outlook and has it incorrectly
set up, so that it sends Microsoft's messed up attachment format to
people who don't also use Outlook.

The format is MS-TNEF .

A quick search on VersionTracker reveals:

TNEF's Enough - 2.0
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/8415

... which should do the trick.

InDesign CS should then import the resulting .qxd Quark file. I'd want
to check the result, as InDesign's Quark import can be a bit patchy, but
it should be alright. Failing that, if you send it to me I can make a
PDF of it for you when I can get access to one of the Quark machines at
work - probably early next week.
