Actually from VPC 4 onwards it's been possible to use PC printer
drivers if the printer is connected to a USB port. So in theory,
what Nathalie wants to do might actually work.

Re: HP Office Jet & Virtual PC: Printer to USB adapter?

2002-01-20 Thread Shay Telfer

Hi All:

I would like to connect my HP Officejet printer (which is also a scanner &
fax) to my Mac. I have Virtual PC, so the software end isn't a problem (DAMN
HP for not making Mac software for this great item!)

However, my problem is HOW do I connect the Printer port computer to my
USB/Firewire/Ehternet machine? Is there a way or an adapter?

Any advice would be appreciated.

VPC probably won't solve your problems unfortunately.

More discussion is available at

You may be able to use PowerPrint

Good luck,
Shay

I use a Asanté MicroPrint which lets me use my LaserWriter Pro over
Ethernet. It works brilliantly but I'm not sure how it would work with a PC
printer.

Bad news Nathalie. Virtual PC uses the Chooser on the Mac side to configure
printer connections. There is a default printer driver in VPC that works as
a go-between from the PC to the Mac side. So it uses whatever printer is
selected in OS 9/ OS X. I am not sure if this has changed with VPC 5, but
that has been standard on previous releases of VPC.

Your only option is to connect the printer to a real PC and send print jobs
to it via ethernet.
