NeoOffice/J

2005-08-18 Thread Paul

Hi all

Just something I thought I should share.

If you've tried NeoOffice/J and the only reason you went back to the
dark side was it's excruciatingly slow startup time. Take heart, it has
sped right up on or Dual 450 G4 10.3.9

By now, a few months in, I think it may only be a bit slower than the
real thing, Word I mean, Excel loads *much* faster however.

Not sure about it's splash screen though, looks like we are embarking on
some perilous journey ;)

Cheers
Paul

NeoOffice/J

2005-03-31 Thread Reg Whitely

Hi WAMUGgers

I've just downloaded NeoOffice/J (1.1rc)
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/22021 which is touted
as a

fully-featured set of office applications (including word processing,
spreadsheet, presentation, and drawing programs) for Mac OS X. Based on
the OpenOffice.org office suite, NeoOffice/J incorporates dozens of
native Mac features and can import, edit, and exchange files with other
popular office programs such as Microsoft Office. Unlike the Mac OS X
release of OpenOffice.org, NeoOffice/J does not require the X11
windowing system. Released as free, open-source software under the GNU
General Public License (GPL), NeoOffice/J is fully functional and
stable enough for everyday use. The software is actively developed, and
updates and improvements are available on a regular basis.

It is a 118MB download so you might benefit from having broadband. It
is now set up on my PowerBook and seems to be running well. If you're
shy of installing Microsoft Office, then this open source software may
be just what you want. It's still in beta format. Installation was as
easy as any other mac app I've ever downloaded. I'll let you know how
it goes.

Regards
Reg

NeoOffice/J

2005-03-01 Thread Edward Arrowsmith
Does anyone have knowledge of NeoOffice/J? Its the OpenOffice.org baby
with an interface.

I want to change the default text in the windows as its very difficult
to read. It appears to me to be a caps font in light grey but I can't
find a preference option. I also would like to change the default
letter document font from Times to Garamond but the instructions appear
to be written for Windows although the program is for OS X.

I thought it was going to be a less bloated writing program than Word
but it seems to be full of stuff and seems to have a lot of
pre-formatting. Can anyone recommend it or should I stick with Word?

thanks and Best wishes

You could also try AbiWord

http://www.abisource.com/

Might be a bit more user friendly.

Have fun,
