I've been experiencing sluggish performance for ages on my MBP running Lion, particularly when it came to using Spotlight, or the search facility within Mail.
Then I came across the Repair User Permissions process detailed at: http://osxdaily.com/2011/11/15/repair-user-permissions-in-mac-os-x-lion After following this process, I'm ecstatic with the difference in performance. Chalk & cheese. I mention it here in case anybody else has a sluggish Mac for no particularly good reason.
