Re: iPod compatability

2002-09-24 Thread Daniel Forsdyke
This was covered last week on the list but here goes!

If transferring between both Macs and Windoze PC's, you'll need to get the
Windoze version of the iPod.

This is because Windoze machines cannot read a Mac formatted (?HFS) iPod,
however a Mac can read both HFS and IBM formats.

Hope this helps

Re: iPod compatability

2002-08-29 Thread Shay Telfer

I am currently throeing up the idea of getting an iPod to use as a
data storage unit to take files to and from different computers
The reason I want one is because I am currently having to carry
large graphic files on a number of zip disks between a MAC and
a PC. (I am having disk problems as a result of this)

What I want to know is whether you can use the MAC version
iPod and attatch it to the PC to transfer data . Is that
possible

Mac iPod's are formatted as HFS+, Windows iPod's are formatted as FAT.

PC's can't read Mac formatted disks (which is essentially what the
Mac iPod is) without the help of software like MediaFour's Xplay

So you should be able to either get a Windows iPod and use it on a
Mac, or you can use a Mac iPod and use it on Windows using
MediaFour's XPlay.

Alternatively you can reformat your iPod appropriately, rather than
buying a Windows iPod...

Be warned, if you're using a Windows formatted iPod under Mac OS X,
there are apparently some problems with Mac OS X's FAT file format
support which are meant to be fixed in Mac OS X 10.2.

Have fun,
Shay
