Thanks to those who responded and here is a summary of the suggestions :- mesa3, http://www.plsys.co.uk/mesa.htm Mariner Calchttp://www.marinersoftware.com/sitepage.php?page=14 Pyramid 1.6.4 http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Word-Processing/ Pyramid.shtml NeoOffice: http://www.neooffice.org/ Ragtime Solo like Appleworks and has desktop publishing facilities and a spreadsheet. tables is still in beta http://www.x-tables.eu/ Appleworks will not convert / handle multiple Excel worksheets ! That is a lot more than I imagined .Mariner Calc is very close to Excel ! The makers also produce Mariner Word which I find to be EXCELLENT . It's simple , has some features , but does not keep telling you how to write . Individually Mariner Write Mariner Worde are $50 US , but a combined package is $80 . Cheers Bob
