I also went straight from the 3G to the 4, and found the difference in speed
alone to be amazing. Things that would take 15-20 seconds or more on the 3G now
happen almost immediately on the 4. Some games which were unplayable on the 3G
are now manageable on the 4 due to it's far superior responsiveness. Because of
the poor press surrounding the issue at the rime, I never took the step of
upgrading my 3G to IOS4.

iOS 4.1 rectified the problem of slowing that iOS4.0 had caused on the 3G.

Re: iPhone 4 V 3GS

Hi Rob,

I went from the 3G to the 4 skipping the 3GS. Being a photography nut that was
enough to do it for me. The camera and to a lesser extend the video
capabilities was the clincher in choosing the 4 over the GS. I now have a point
and shoot camera that is quite reasonable. Certainly not an SLR but it is
always at hand. The HDR camera mode is a bonus and has allowed me to experiment
with this technology.

Funny, even upgrading to iOS 4.1 on my 3G I never noticed a big decrease in
speed as others have mentioned. However the WiFi died and the Mobile reception
got weaker. The 3G is now an iPod touch for my daughter who loves it!!

 Regards,
 Eugene

2010-09-29 Thread Andrew Schox

Rob,

I can't answer this question specifically, but I've just upgraded from a 3G to
a 4 today. Foolishly, I had previously upgraded the 3G to iOS 4.x, which made
it unbearably slow, with horrible bugs in Mail.

The 4 is MUCH faster than the 3G, and the screen is beautiful on the 4.

I'm loving it :-)

Andrew

iPhone 4 V 3GS

2010-09-29 Thread Rob Findlay

I've lived with an iPhone 3G for a year or 2 now, love it but it's getting
slow. Considering buying a new unlocked phone.
Apple Store has the 3GS at $719, iPhone4 at $859. Seems a bit of a no brainer
to get the 4.
Has anyone owned both and got an opinion about just how much better the 4 is?
I've looked up comparisons on the net but it's all just specs which I confess
wash over me.
What's the real life feeling of the 2?
Rob
