Thanks Ronni, I tried reinstalling iTunes and restarting, but no joy.

The iMac was shut down overnight, and this morning it just worked.
No apparent change.

So all good now.

Hi Glenn,

You are not connecting from the iMac Intel's USB port on the Keyboard  
are you or a USB Hub?


Or you could try powering down the phone and restarting the computer  
and turning the phone back on and see if that rectifies the problem.

I've got an iPhone 3GS that is detected by iTunes 8.2 (23) on an iMac
G5 across USB, but is not detected by an iMac Intel running the same
version of iTunes.

Both iMacs are running OS X 10.5.7

Any quick fix to get it to sync?
