Re: iPod Photo problems

2004-12-06 Thread Mark Schotte
Hi all,

For what it is worth, I have been using a 2nd generation iPod for just on 18
months now.

It was originally purchased to take the place of a cd player we were using
to play background music in our bed and breakfast property.

We were finding that a standard cd player was not up to running for 15 hours
per day. Repair costs were getting out of hand. We had already worn out a
Bose cd unit and a Sony was also starting to give repeated problems.

Enter the iPod. My estimate is that it has clocked up just over 8000 hours
of use so far. The battery charger is attached to a timer to give 8 hours of
charge every 24.

What can I say - it just works and hasn't missed a beat in that time.

Another Apple success story.

 Matt;
You'll probably need to take it in to have it serviced. You could get
by using it with the functionality that it does have but it's probably
not such a good idea to let issues like that lay around until your
 warranty passes.

Actually this is an interesting point.

Do many iPods need to go back for 'fixing'? I've always thought of them as a
consumer item like a walkman or DVD player and not something that 'usually
 works'.

Anybody have any experiences to share? I think I remember someone on the
list (Skippy) who went through a few iPods before he got a stable one.

Yes, I'm thinking of getting one, now that they store 60Gb which is close to
 my library size.

Matt Morgan,

I'm considering the purchase of the iPod Photo.

Could you elaborate on the clunky aspects of your unit? Compared to
what,

the regular iPod?

The possibility that your unit is struggling with the amount of
information seems unlikely. Difficulty with minor format differences in
the content seems more likely. Anyhow, that's a worry as well.

With thanks, Vlad James
