Tom If your printer is connected using localtalk (the twisted pair cable out of the printer port) then you simply need to download laser writer bridge from the Apple web site and install and configure on the G3. Tafter rebooting the G3, the iMacs should see the printer in the Chooser. Obviously the G3 will have to be switched on for this to work. If your printer is connected in some other way I'm afraid I can't think of a solution. I understand there is a method of sharing the printer between the three computers so that all can print. It's not an Ethernet printer though. Is this possible, and if so, how is it done? Tom Yes, it is possible, but a few conditions need to be met (of course). First, all computers need to be running at least MacOS 9.0. Second, the printer you want to share must connect to the host computer via USB (in the absence of ethernet, as in your case). You then go to the "USB Printer Sharing" Control Panel. If all is working properly the process of networking the printer should be fairly straightforward. Failing these conditions, there are other, more elaborate solutions involving printer servers, laserwriter bridges, Appletalk bridges, etc. -- Peter Hinchliffe Apwin Computer ServicesFileMaker Pro Solutions Developer Perth, Western Australia Phone (618) 9332 6482Fax (618) 9332 0913 Mac because I prefer it -- Windows because I have to.
printing on a small Ethernet with 8.6 and 9.2
I'd be grateful for advice on the following problem. i have a small home network made up of: - a G3 running 8.6 - two imacs running 9.2 - an Ethernet switch - a Xerox laser printer. The printer is currently connected to the G3 and prints fine. I can see all three of the computers in the Choosers, and can mount the HDs on the desktops as desired. I understand there is a method of sharing the printer between the three computers so that all can print. It's not an Ethernet printer though. Is this possible, and if so, how is it done?
