ASAK,
Over the years I kept on reading thought provoking articles written by Dr Mrs
Tayyaba Abedin Qidwai in various internet forums and lists.  Dr Tayyaba is
originally from Aligarh; she studied medicine at AMU and has worked as a doctor
in UAE where she has lived for many years,  Her husband Dr Hayat Qidwai sahib,
also a distinguished  AMU alumnus is a geologist presently working in UAE.

For many years this distinguished couple ket on providing significant financial
help to Muslim schools and students in UP, India.   Then about five years ago
Dr Tayyaba decided to build an educational center in Faizabad (UP).  She
established a home for poor Muslim children from slums  called Morning Home.
About 12 to 18 poor Muslim teenagrs are kept in this house, provided all
facilities available to middleclass families, are educated in a local high
school.  The living and education of children in this home is supervised by a
staff employed for that purpose.  Several young boys from this home are now
reaching hgh school graduation level.  The intent is to help these poor youth
become well settled in society.  In addition they have adopted another school
of the Faiz e aam Education Society of Faizabad.

This year during my visit to India I got an opportunity to meet this
distinguished couple in a village on the outskirts of Faizabad in eastern UP.
I also got an opportunity to visit their home-school project in Faizabad.  I
was delighted to see first hand this very noble project and the tremendous work
they are doing to improve education among poor Muslim youth in India.

Dr Hayat Qidwai PhD and Dr Tayyaba Qidwai, MD, are a role model for many of
us.  Inspite of being highly educated professionals living very comfortably in
UAE, they kept the flame of service to the Muslim community burning bright.
Now Dr Tayyaba spends several months every year in Faizabad to provide personal
supervision to her very distinguished educationl project.  Dr Tayyaba is a
prolific and superior writer in English language and her articles are
frequently published in many online magazines and AMU forums.  Needless to say
that this couple are devout Muslims.

May Allah help us emulate their outstanding work and walk in their august
footsteps.
