[Wayland-bugs] [Bug 105640] Lenovo T440p - slow fine touchpad movement makes cursor jump

2018-03-22 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=105640

It's certainly possible that the patch helped somewhat; it's just really hard
to distinguish subjectively between the level of "jumpiness" between restarts.
All I can say is that as things stand it is still challenging to do finer work
with the trackpad.

Maybe there's a problem with what I've done, however. You say that one of the
categories of jump in the latest recording ought to be fixed by the patch; but
the recording was made *after* I applied the hwdb changes, so this jump
shouldn't be showing up at all now but as you can see from the udevadm info
output, that variable does appear to be set, so I'm confused. Have I
misunderstood here or is there some other way to check that the updated
behaviour really is being used?

Did you notice any changes in the behaviour with the patch applied? Looking at
this latest recording, there are two categories of jumps:

 6.735493: | *** | *** | *** |
*** |
 6.745580: | *** | *** | *** |

*** |
 6.948594: ↓↘1/ 3 | *** | *** | *** |
*** |

i.e. lots of nothings, then a jump, then normal motion. This type of jump
should be fixed with the bug.

 5.101908: | *** | *** | *** |
*** |
 5.152933: | *** | *** | *** |

 5.162819: | *** | *** | *** |

*** |
 5.264403: →↘1/ 1 | *** | *** | *** |
*** |

i.e. lots of nothings, then *multiple* jumps, in this case three. There's
another one with three jumps of 17 as well but the recording in the other bug
had 2 and 4 events as well. Problem is: these don't look anything special, we
cannot easily detect those because they're indistinguishable from a real move.

So yeah, I don't really know what to do here.

[Wayland-bugs] [Bug 105696] Apple Magic Trackpad scrolling sensitivity too low (libinput 1.10)

2018-03-22 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=105696

Bug ID: 105696
Summary: Apple Magic Trackpad scrolling sensitivity too low
(libinput 1.10)
   Product: Wayland
   Version: 1.2.1
  Hardware: Other
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: libinput
  Assignee: wayland-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: m...@elbmurf.de

Hello, after #103572 fixed the overall Magic Trackad sensitivity regression
introduced in libintput 1.9, the patch does not fully restore the previous
level of sensitivity.
Most of the time, cursor movement works reliable but scrolling is still a hit
or miss. I have rather small fingers and soft skin and thought the new touch
range of 60:40 must be set too high (see #103572).
I have followed the instructions in comment 22 to alter the value to 20:10, and
now "sudo udevadm test /sys/class/input/event21" reports
"LIBINPUT_ATTR_TOUCH_SIZE_RANGE=20:10". But this did not fix the scrolling
problem (maybe a tiny bit better than before but this might be an illusion).
Sometimes, I need to really put pressure on the trackpad to start scrolling.
It’s really annoying and I can’t remember this device being so insensitive to
simple scroll gestures in Linux since I have bought it in 2011.
To illustrate this, I have recorded a video (pardon the upright format but in
this case it actually makes sense): https://youtu.be/s-qtTzMP5HA
Interestingly, gestures with more fingers seem to work more reliably (Kwin
effects triggered by libinput-gestures).

Fun, the backtrace looks a lot like this is the same problem described in
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/issues/119. I just quickly tried it and I
can't reproduce the problem here in evolution, I guess this depends a lot on
your system/icontheme/etc.

Can you reliably reproduce this? If so, can you go to frame 3 and print the

Thanks for a bug report. I cannot reproduce it here, but I believe it's related
to the "loading" emblem evolution sets on an attachment icon when it is still
loading. I see it quickly flashing here when I drag&drop a file into the
composer. In any case, the crash happened when the window had been repainting,
thus unless evolution calling gtk+ functions in a dedicated thread, not in the
main thread, this is for gtk+.
