It's the thought that counts.

You've probably got your heart set on a bed jacket or something like that,
when a dozen canning jars would be much more practical.

Yes, but I think the implication was that Barney was so used to eating
cashew fudge at Thelma Lou's house that he went out and bought some himself to
make up for the fact that he was missing Thel's fudge that night. Besides,
Barney buying cashew fudge every week would be out of character, considering
how
tight he was with money. Remember the time he delivered some ice cream (West
Indian Licorice Mocha Delight) to Thelma Lou and expected her to pay for it?
("A good delivery boy always has change!") Also, they always went dutch
treat on their dates. So I don't see Barn springing for store-bought fudge
every week when Thelma Lou could make it herself. That's my theory, anyway.

By golly Thelma Lou, I had never even considered that idea, but by darn I
think your on to something. That makes Barney's response even more enjoyable
because he was so durn checareful with money. Thanks for a good thought.

One of the taggers offered this tag: PURPLE ANEMONES TAG and all I

Marriages

2006-02-15 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Dear Mayberry Friends,
I don't post much, but I sure do enjoy reading the posts from everyone else. I
did enjoy reading about the Valentine's Day of our Mayberry friends that were
posted(my husband and I celebrated our 36th wedding anniversary on Valentine's
Day!!) and I was wondering if Aneta Corsaut and Betty Lynn ever got married or
had children. We do hear about Don Knotts and Andy Griffith's marriages and
children, but not their TV sweethearts. Just wondering.
Thanks,
Nancy from beautiful (but dry) East Texas

Double Dating at the Duck Pond

2006-02-15 Thread bcq145
Lydia here. Me and Goober went for a drive last night down by the duck pond.
There was nothing to do after we ate all the chocolate he had
bought me for Valentine's Day. Finally we took our shoes off and went wading
in the Duck Pond; it's ok
since I have a brother.
Today, me and Laura Lee Hobbs was talking about double dating., me with Goober,
and her with Violet Slatt's younger boy, Gail.
But I was wondering. If you wanted to go double dating with the gang, which
couple would you most like to hang out with: Barney and Thelma Lou or Andy and
Helen (or one of Andy's other girlfriends, but mostly I'm thinking of Helen).
I like dating with either one even though Barney called me an albatross and Andy
said I reminded him of a dog with its head hanging out the car window that
time I
lost my hair ribbon.
But I say, let by-gones be by-gones, I say, and just get on with life. Both
boys can be real nice.
Well, don't know what the Goob has for me tonight. But I know it will be
something
special. Maybe we'll talk about cars. I have real bad tires. And I'm feeling a
little
nauseous from all the chocolate I ate last night.
Lydia, "That's the couch I was telling you about..."

Funny Lines

2006-02-15 Thread Anita Carpenter
I'm like everyone else, there are so many good lines from TAGS it is hard to
narrow it down to just a few, but I'll try. As I write these lines, I can see
and hear them being said by the TAGS actors, and that is what makes them so
funny to me.

  ~
"Next time I go tiger huntin', I'm gonna take my tweezers."

"Its definitely no fun when that iron door clangs shut."

"If I'd aseen you acoming I'd aknowd what I'd do, I'd arisen both arms and
I'd awoved at you."

"Boy, you fall down a well and you're wet!"

"Got time to breathe, got time for music."

  "Better phone him, Al."

"Thought about killin him, kinda hated to go that far."

  "Ain't you got a jack?"

"But what will happen to her? She can't do anything, like fish, catch frogs
or play baseball. She'll be helpless."

"It's not a whim if you put on clean underwear."

"You had your chance to fly with me, baby. But you blew it. Now the balloon
is going up without you."

My sweet Valentine

I had a great day yesterday! The 14th. I received the best Valentines
gift a girl could get from her darling person, Season 5 TAGS on DVD!
“I love him with all my endearing heart” (sorry that’s a spill over from
another favorite show.) I meant to say boy he’s swell.

Mayberry Moment

2006-02-15 Thread Julie Bowers
My husband & I had a Mayberry Moment over the weekend. We went to a
nice Italian restaurant to celebrate our anniversary and when we walked
in, the song playing over the intercom was "Santa Lucia". Of course we
both immediately thought of Gomer!

Funny Lines

2006-02-15 Thread Harry Brewbaker
Haven't seen these mentioned yet:

"Winkin'll tell Blinkin, Blinkin'll tell Nod, Nod'll tell Barney, and
Barney'll tell you." Andy

"I don't do William Holden, William Holden talks like everybody else."
Goober

"I think it's the fallout, it's affecting the milk." Otis

"They're over at the water fountainwashing their hands." Barney

There are just to many to mention or (at my advanced age) to remember.
Great writing and great delivery.

one-liners & Valentines day celebrations

2006-02-15 Thread Kim
"What is really good about that line is it stands on its own..you
don't >really have to see the picture, or know the context for it to be
funny.."

I think the Ernest T lines: "I'm kinda mean, but I make up for it by being
real healthy" and "Wanna hear me sing Eatin Goober peas?" Would still be
funny used in other contexts.

"It was a wonderful Valentine's Day in the quiet township of Mayberry
this year." I have it on good authority that Floyd celebrated Valentine's Day
in Nashville.

Funny--and useful--lines

2006-02-15 Thread Maurine Taylor
I like--and use--all of Barney's "that'd be funny, too" lines. For example,

--Why don't you get yourself a wig and a dress?! You could be another Emmy
Schmalz.

--Why don't you get yourself a partner?! You could call yourselves Frick and
Frack.

--Why don't you go over to the old folks' home and take the bolts off the
wheelchairs?! That'd be real funny, too.

--Why don't you go over to the old folks' home and wax the steps? That'd be
real funny, too.

(When I was in college--long, long ago--we were looking for a service
project, and someone actually suggested we make popcorn balls and take them to
patients in a nursing home. You can guess what/who I thought of. Or we could
was the steps and take the bolts off the wheelchairs?! That'd be funny, too.)

Opie Loves Helen

2006-02-15 Thread brodahaver
I bought TAGS Season 5 on DVD yesterday, the day of its release, February 14
(Valentines Day). I thought it fitting that the release date falling on
Valentines Day was all the more ironic when, lo and behold, the first episode
I
watched was 'Opie Loves Helen' an episode with a love theme. Ronny Howard
later guest starred on the 'Love, American Style' episode "Love and the Happy
Day", the pilot for 'Happy Days.' In the last scene, Andy, with Helen by his
side, explains to Opie that one day he and Helen may marry. (That would prove
true four years to the month later on 'Mayberry R.F.D.') In reality, though, I
believe that Aneta Corsaut's Valentine might have been writer Jim Fritzell. I
would like to see the chalkboard writing there.
