Deleted scenes
I'm a new member and I'm thoroughly enjoying all this fuss over the little town of Mayberry and all the folks in it. Just a few comments on missing scenes...I've noticed TV Land has deleted the classic scene from Opie the Birdman where Barney talks bird talk. " Gee, I'm feeling good. Gee, I'm feeling bad. Here comes a cat! Let's fly away! Okay." Also, in the dog episode, why'd they delete the scene where Barney's talking about dog's fur, how it keeps them cool in the summer and warm and dry in the winter? What's wrong with those people? They ought to be ashamed. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://mail.wbmutbb.com/mailman/listinfo/wbmutbb_wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Thelma Lou and Barney--Oh, How They Loved
I perfectly agree with Thelma Lou (Janet) that close-ups of our Thelma Lou often gave an indication of just how much she loved her Barney. (Sadly we often got the opposite impression from Helen to Andy as close-ups of her too often showed her annoyance of him.) One of my favorite moments is when John Masters is brutally critiquing Barney's singing and the look on Thelma Lou's face is priceless. She looks absolutely heart-broken. Yes, she knows Barney can't sing a lick--remember her speech to Andy? "He's a warm wonderful human being...the man I want to marry...the man I want to be the father of my children...but he can't sing a lick!" And, yes, she knows Barney has trouble accepting the cold hard truth about himself. But she still loves him and she wants to protect him. That is part of loving a person. You accept them warts and all. And you always want to protect them from people like John Masters who used truth like a sledge- hammer. Thelma Lou could be a little childish at times (in this way she was a lot like Barney), but one never doubted her basic good nature nor her love for her man. She is a great woman. I just wish Barney could have fully appreciated her sooner. Speaking of Barney and Juanita...
Have been watching the 5th season (Otis Sues The County) and last night this particular exchange jumped right out, considering the recent discussion. (While sitting and going through the "occupant" mail) Barney: What'd you do last night? Andy: Had a date. Barney: With Helen? Andy: No, Juanita. Barney: Juanita? Andy: Yeah, Juanita, down at the diner. Barney: MY Juanita? Andy: What do you mean "My Juanita?" She's everyone's Juanita. Barney: What are you talkin' about? Andy: I didn't have a date with Juanita. I was over at Helen's. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://mail.wbmutbb.com/mailman/listinfo/wbmutbb_wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Re: WBMUTBB Digest, Vol 6, Issue 99
Don't forget Barney also had a thing going with Melissa Stevens while he was dating Thelma LouAnd Thelma Lou knew about it."Will that be alright with your fiancee? Don't you worry about her. I'm calling her now and telling her its all off between us..." Of course, it was a short lived romance and Barney almost got taken to the cleaners by a sheister..And she wasn't a lawyer!!! Barney & Thelma Lou
A scene that always really tickle's my funny bone, is the one about Barney and the choir. Andy and Thelma Lou are in the courthouse talking about Barney's singing ability's. Andy says a line and Thelma Lou keeps saying "but he can't sing!!". When my hubby and I are in church or somewhere else where some poor untalented soul is trying to sing, we look at each other, and whisper "but he can't sing!!" Life is just full of Mayberry moments, and I thank God for them... Don's departure
I figure they were holding out hope that Don would soon come back on a permanent basis, and that's why they didn't "write him out," so to speak, with a big farewell episode. --Paul >>> Janet wrote: But maybe I'm just being hard to please. The producers could have chosen to end Don's final season on a high note with a good Barney episode, and they didn't. I guess that just sticks in my craw! ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://mail.wbmutbb.com/mailman/listinfo/wbmutbb_wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
That 30th Anniv show
Was that tall "Goober" in the audience on the 30th Anniversary show our own Jim Clark? I had a tape of that special and I remember seeing Jim in the crowd. The tape went bad as one of my buddies here tried to copy it for some of you, but I had seen it a few times. Speaking of Jim, Thanks for the nice Don Knotts tribute/stories in the bullet. We all admire you and at the same time are jealous of all your TAGS personality interactions. Many things you've done I've thought "I was just thinking of doing the same thing"..but unlike Barney, it didn't hit me right after you said/did it--I was about 20-years slower. You and Allan and others, were on the cutting edge of what it takes to be a true TAGS fan and do something about it. I bought some new batteries the other day, and it came with a free whistle, with a compass and a secret compartment (that a bullet would fit in.) I kept it for Barney.
