Andy Griffith on TVLAND

2006-09-21 Thread Sue Doughty
When I was watching the TV guide channel last night, did my eyes deceive
me or did I see that TAGS was back in the 9:00 PM time slot?

Hey From Mayberry Days and the Mayberry Motor Inn

2006-09-21 Thread Allan Newsome
Folks,

The first day of Mayberry Days has come and gone and it was a great
start to a Mayberry weekend.

Today started with the Annual Golf tourny and this evenings awards show.
It was a wonderful day here in Mayberry with the weather being perfect
for a day of golf.

The evenings show went well and I'm not the best judge to say how well
it went but I know I had a great time.

The best thing for me is that the Mayberry Motor Inn
(http://www.MayberryMotorInn.com) now has highspeed Internet access so I
can stay in just a little better contact when I'm here in Mayberry. Be
sure to stay here if you ever are in Mt. Airy. Alma and LP (the owners)
are THE best.

I don't know how many reports I can file but I'm looking forward to the
rest of the weekend. If you're coming to down, be sure to say "hey" to
Floyd.

Andy's Hip

2006-09-21 Thread Allan Newsome
Folks,

Let me set this straight for everybody.

Andy had his hip replaced and he is currently back home (in California
not NC) healing up from this major surgery. He is doing well.

All those reports on the Internet and in papers are just wrong. I have
very good sources. :)

Re: Trained noticers

2006-09-21 Thread lizmarie

Ok you trained noticers...while we are compiling our Nellie "Schwump"
list, I have one more question. In the episode with Keevy Hazelton, was
that Jackie Joseph(aka Ernest T.'s beloved Rowenna) dancing behind Keevy
when he was singing the "rock" version of My Hometown? The one with the
dark hair sure looked like her...

Nellie

>>>OK, when the girls all come to Andy's house the first time In a "A wife for
>>>Andy" (#92 I think) is she the last lady in the door..or the third from the
>>>last?<<<

Our "Nellie" is the third from the last in that scene. I had to pull out my
DVD to check on that. I think I may have been the one to say that she had dark
hair. By that, I simply meant that she wasn't a blond. Now that I look at her
again, her hair is apparently a rather light to medium shade of brown. (Of
course, with black and white, it's hard to know what color it really is.
Thelma Lou was actually a redhead, but you can't tell in black and white!)
Also, I believe she's a little older than I was thinking -- probably somewhere
past forty. She is an attractive woman, though.

Mayberry Days

2006-09-21 Thread Harry Brewbaker
I envy all of you who are headed to Mt Airy. I'll make it one day. I'm not
too far away, but they always schedule Mayberry Days on the same day as a
Va. Tech home football game and I just can't miss the Hokies at home. Have
lots of fun and say "Hey" to everyone from all of the Hokie fans.

Andy Griffith's injury

Hi Everyone,

Mary Grace, I read that Mr. Griffith took a bad fall at his home and broke his
hip. I read that they put a rod in his hip. He was about to undergo hip

surgery. They are not sure when he will have his surgery now.

I called TV Land and thanked them for putting TAGS back on at 9 pm :O)

Now that you mention it, Neil, there is a strong family resemblance.
Surpised we didn't pick up on that years ago. I can just visualize you as a
kid - a little schwampster!

Andy and Oxford American

2006-09-21 Thread Don Good
The "Oxford American" (http://www.oxfordamericanmag.com/) bills itself as
"The southern magazine of good writing." I quite agree. Once a year, they
focus on music of the south, and the issue includes a CD. The songs are
usually great ones, but not are not necessarily widely know. One of the
tracks on this year's is Andy Griffith's "Mama Guitar" from "A Face in the
Crowd."

Also, the last page (right before the back cover) consists of a full-page
picture of "Andy Griffith on a lonesome road, two miles west of Piggott,
Arkansas 1956)." The play on words was not lost on me.

Andy & The Center for the Study of the American South

2006-09-21 Thread Don Good
I just received the most recent newsletter from the Center for the Study of
the American South (affiliated with the University of North
Carolina). There's a nice story about Andy Griffith donating his papers to
the Southern Historical Collection. The article can be seen at
http://www.unc.edu/depts/csas/archives_resources/griffith.html

There's a great picture of Andy from "A Face in the Crowd" that doesn't
show up on the web link.

There's also a link to the catalog listings at
http://www.lib.unc.edu/mss/inv/g/Griffith,Andy.html

Jack-O-Lantern Patterns

2006-09-21 Thread Tim Allen
Several years ago, somewhere on someone's TAGS website, there were 3 or 4
Jack-O-Lantern TAGS patterns. One was of Barney, one was of Floyd, I think
one was of Opie and maybe one of Goober. I can't remember exactly.

Do these still patterns exist somewhere that I could once again download the
images? I carved all of these years ago and they were great fun, especially
when the little kids came to the door and their parents recognized the
images.

Anyway when I carved these in natural pumpkins, they obviously have a very
short shelf life, but now they are making artificial carve-able pumpkins.
So I want to re-carve them to keep for years to come.

If anyone still has access to these patterns, would you please let me know
where I can get them again.

Thanks so much...Tim

Mystery Lady--clearing things up

2006-09-21 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (SBC-OPS)
OK I watched "Andy Saves Barney's Morale" and I know who Nellie is. I
believe she is the third from last bachelorette who enters Andy's house
in "A wife for Andy".

What confused me was someone's comment that her hair is dark. I would
say its more like a like a light brunette. She is the one I mentioned
is in a picture on page 27 of the coffee table book "Mayberry
Memories", where she is shown coming out of a cell.

In an ironic twist, I am excited to tell you that she is in at least two
episodes with Mr. Schwamp. In "Aunt Bee Takes A Job" she is the one who
walks up with Mr. Schwamp to investigate the accident after Andy shoots
out the tire. In "Otis the Artist" She is the one that Mr. Schwamp is
shown speaking to!!
Is there a connection there

So our "Nellie" List so far:
Andy Saves Barney's Morale #16
A Wife for Andy #92
Aunt Bee Takes a Job #171
Otis the Artist #175
Politics Begins at Home #200 ?? (Aunt Bee runs for Council)

She is NOT the Lady giggling with the man behind Barney as Andy us
talking about the Microphone in Barney and the Choir.
