pumpkin question
Hi fellow Mayberrians, First I'd like to say thanks Mike!! Next, someone recently commented that this year there are pumpkins that you can carve that are not perishable and can be kept. Where would I find these kind of pumpkins? I looked at Wally world but didn't see them. Are they at a hobby shop or craft store? Yes, that Mr. Schwamp at Col. Tim's at Mayberry Days was the life of the party. He kept trying to pinch Ernest T., Jr. and even danced with Lou Ann Poovey at the conclusion of the show. He also got to dance with Sweet Romeena at Mrs. Wiley's tea on Friday. And you should have seen that rug he was showing off. Slickity! Message 5 -- Sept. 25 -- Mayberry tickets
I offered six Mayberry Days 2007 dinner tickets on the Digest Sept. 25 because I won't be able to attend the dinner and the Surry Arts Council executive director, Tanya Jones, said I should just sell them anyway I could since the council offered no refunds. I just called the Surry Arts Council (1:50 p.m. Sept. 26) and was told there would be no problem selling the tickets. I plan on providing Surry Arts Council with the names and contact information for whoever buys the tickets so there is no problem when they actually attend the dinner next fall. The Surry Arts Council staff explained to me that there was a problem in 2005 with some folks trying to crash the dinner without tickets or saying they had tickets when they didn't. This year, they instituted a checklist and compared the tickets against the name of the person who originally purchased them. Yesterday someone mentioned that our fav mystery man's son might have been in a movie called Land of the Giants. The corect title is VILLAGE OF THE GIANTS. Ron and Rance Howard were also in this movie. RE: What happened to Otis
In reference to Otis disappearing, I did see Hal Smith on several episodes of The Doris Day Show, Season 1. This season was 1968-1969. In both episodes that I'm aware of, he played an "Otis-like" drunk neighbor of Doris'. The most recent time, Doris ran out of gas in her car, and she syphoned gas from "Otis" car, with Doris insisting that he shouldn't drive his own car drunk. So he fell asleep in the trunk, while she took of (in her own car, of course) and babysat the neighbor kids. One of those kids was a 6-year-old Jodie Foster (whose brother Buddy was on Mayberry RFD). The reason they never had a "send off" for Otis is that there was always a slim chance he would be able to return in future episodes. Otis also appears in 1986's "Return to Mayberry."
