The Dillards Concert at the Swansboro, NC Mullet Festival

2006-10-15 Thread Kim Cooney
I had the pleasure of once again seeing Rodney and Doug Dillard in concert
at the Mullet Festival here in NC. They put on a great show as usual.
Onstage for just over an hour. Just wanted to let my fellow Mayberrians
about the wonderful opportunity I had.
Have a Mayberry kind of day.
Kim

Mayberry

2006-10-15 Thread CTMIDWAY58
There is a Mayberry! It is not in NC though, it is in Virginia. If you go to
Mayberry Days you can visit Mayberry by going up Tr. 52 to the Blue Ridge
Parkway and go north for about 25 miles. There is a Mayberry Country Store and
just up the road from it, a few hundred feet, is the Mayberry Presbyterian
Church. Last time we were there they were making apple butter at the store. The

old store was built back in the 1800s so predates Mayberry USA by quite a
bit.
And as far as being closer to Nags Head, it is actually farther away!
However, since Mayberry is a fictional town and all the characters are
fictional, the distances they mention is also fictional. Siler City is probably
 at
least 2 hours away but the show makes it about an hour. Mt. Pilot is just a
few minutes down the road from Mt. Airy but they make it to be a little
farther, I think.
Whatever they did was for the show, not in reality, since thank goodness
this was not a reality show!
I guess they could have made all the towns and cities no more than 50 miles
away and it still would'a been a fantastical show! I am glad the Griffiths
decided to have a child, I am glad this child turned out to be a son, and I am
glad the son had a sense of humor. I am doubly glad he came up with the
Football Story, since that is what got it all started!
BTW...For all the computer whizzes out there, I got my new computer and I
need to transfer my old hard drive contents to the new hard drive. Anyone have
any experience with the different software products to transfer files? Let me
know under private Email and I will try to get things taken care of and get
my new one up and running.
Thanks
Welford theCameraNu!!

Did I miss something?

2006-10-15 Thread Chip Morris
I was in Winston-Salem last week and decided to drive up to Mt. Airy
for a couple of hours. I got to the Historic District at about 6:15
and was able to see Floyd's Barbershop, the Snappy Lunch, the squad
car and jail house and everything else that is in that two or three
block area. I also went over to the Andy Griffith Playhouse to take a
picture of the Andy and Opie statue.

I guess I thought there would be more to the town than what I saw.
Unfortunately, most of the stores seem to have just closed so I
didn't get a chance to go in many of them. So I'm wondering: Did I
miss something or is the Historic District what the town has to offer
by way of Mayberry?

All the best to you and yours.

Chip

Thelma Lou....

2006-10-15 Thread musicboxlane
Yes, Barney did have many good qualities. Thelma Lou was a lady in
love..even though she didn't think he could sing, not a lick!! She must
have loved him very much to go "dutch treat" with him and how about those
nights he never spent a dime on her but went to her house to watch TV and eat
cashew fudge.

Anybody know how to make that? I wouldn't mind making a pan of that myself.

Exotic Ice Cream Flavor

2006-10-15 Thread Kyle Cantrell
Would that flavor be the West Indian Licorice Mocha Delight that Barney

brought to Thelma Lou. I forget the name of the episode but it's the one
where Thelma Lou needs a date for her cousin Mary Grace. "Nice, she's so
nice" and they find Gomer, "Tall, dark and door prize!"

Marie, the episode was "A Date for Gomer", and I always thought it was funny
that this ice cream came from "Murphy's House of the Nine Flavors." Now if
you only have nine flavors, isn't it interesting that one of them is "West
Indian Licorice Mocha Delight"?

I guess Mayberrians have exotic tastes. We mustn't forget Wally's pop
cooler with flavors like "Huckleberry Smash" (not to mention "High Octane
Ethyl"!!).
