Mayberry Corner

2007-02-21 Thread maharmon
Just checking in to let everyone know that our Mayberry Corner on our Red
Rooster Party radio show has become a hit! We do a trivia question (OK, not
really trivia.but we are slowly increasing the level of difficulty) and CD
giveaway as well as playing music and Andy's stories from the show (we did Jack
the Giantkiller last Sunday). I've had the opportunity to meet with some of our
listeners and they all have stories about their favorite AG shows. I also teach
school and my advisory group begs me to put in a DVD of AGS every day. They sit
mesmerized by the story and characters (lots of tears for Opie the Birdman). I
live in the State of New England, not what I considered a hotbed of AGS
followers, but I've found that they are here, just not showing themselves. I
invite you all to tune in Sundays, 2-4pm (assuming no sports pre-emptions) for
the Red Rooster Party (old-time/pre-country roots music + education about the
music) on whus.org. We'd love to have you participate in the AGS trivia
question of the day. Mayberry Corner usually occurs at 3pm. The phone number is
860.429.9487 (that'll give you a head start on the other folks). If you have
any ideas on how to improve the segment, let us know. Thank you again for being
a pleasant diversion, Marti (NC native stranded in New England).

about Beaver not eating his Brussels Sprouts, The family was going to a
football game and they were in a restaurant and the family was served Brussels
sprouts, and again Beaver did not want to eat them. the manager came over to
see what was going on. and the Manager was TAGS Otis Campbell. This must to
have been before Otis started drinking.

Mayberry moments

A co-worker asked me today if I knew Al Becker, who works at a local ad

No, I don't think I know him. Even though he didn't make the connection, it
made for a nice little Mayberry moment for me!

I love those Mayberry moments! I wish everyone could make the connection when
we sneak little quotes in, but I guess it's enough that we enjoy them and can
share them here.
We went to that Smith Brothers Institute down in Washington but I didn't see
Barney's motorcycle or anything from TAGS. The American History museum is
closed but there was a little display in the Air and Space museum. I guess
I'll need to go over to the Armory there in Mayberry.
To Brian in Maryland: I did see the Smithsonian Castle as we were dashing by.
As it happened, Washington was having a snow storm and was quite windy the day
we were there (Sunday). We were all tired, hungry and cold so I didn't make
the kids or hubby wait. We just ran for the car. (But actually, it was warm
by NY standards). To anyone who goes to DC, the Holocaust museum is well worth
a visit. It's horrifying, but we need to see it.
To John: Thanks for the explanation that ramps are leeks. I know what a leek
is but had never heard of the eating kind of ramps.
This digest surely is educational.

Out of Order Episodes

2007-02-21 Thread MeInMayberry

Did TV Land lose the rights to the black and white episodes that they
skipped?
The black and white episodes only started again on February 7th.
Has anyone heard if TV Land is taking TAGS off? They have been airing the
episodes
very strangely... skipping seasons, etc.
`
No, TAGS is not leaving TVLand. Things get a bit messed up when TVLand
shows marathons...
Here is what the TVLand board moderator posted about the skipped episodes:

The situation involves trying to equalize the number of plays (times an
episode airs) among all off the episodes. It is a contract requirement that
can
take a cycle or two to accomplish.

Has anyone heard if TV Land is taking TAGS off?

2007-02-21 Thread Michael Creech
I haven't heard anything but, some of you may remember a few years back just
prior to TV LAND removing Leave It To Beaver they did the same thing as
well (Leave It To Beaver has since been added to the line-up again). I've
had the thought that TAGS was being shown so many times a day in order to
finish the reamaining episodes before a certain date, maybe the current
contract is about to expire and there's no plans to renew it at this time.
Just a guess though,

Kelly, do the horseradish pickles have all spice in them? I've been secretly
planning to go wild with all spice one day, but haven't had a good recipe.

I grew up in NC calling them Spring Onions. I never ate them, but instead I
just lopped off the tops when I mowed the grass.

TVLAnd's episode senquencing

2007-02-21 Thread tljhunt
I work in the TV industry and I'm THINKING that TVLand is airing TAGS out of
sequence due to certain episodes cpoyrights expiring. You see, when a network
buys the rights to air a show, they have so many air plays and/or a deadline
date until those episodes expire. TVLand's renewal MAY be coming up on certain
blocks of TAGS (as rights usually aren't for an entire season of programs) and
they want to make certain they honor their obligations contractually.
