Mother's Day 1966
I imagine Andy had a nice Mother's Day in 1966. That was the year he moved his parents out of Mt. Airy, North Carolina to California. It was in April 1966 when the move went down as TAGS was on hiatus after the sixth season. Now I found it odd that after many years of living in southern California, Betty Lynn has moved to Mt. Airy. Gas in Mayberry
Price of gas is now $3.29 a gallon in Eau Claire. Boy do I ever miss the sound of that ding on the old pumps. I miss the man in the dirty shirt coming out to wash my windshield and check the oil and tires. I miss chatting with him as he asks me how my day is going. I miss the glass dish I always got at Christmas and the stamps that I could redeem for some really cool gifts. I miss the smell of grease and oil that met me at the door when I went in to give my money to a real live person. I miss being able to drop off my car for servicing and then being able to walk home because the service station was right in my neighborhood. I miss the sound of the glass pop bottle coming down the shoot after I put my dime in the machine. But most of all I miss the sound of hearing my name because the owner of the station knew every customer by name. Those days are gone for good, but thanks to TAGS, I can relive those wonderful times at the local filling station as often as I want, and you know, the older I get the more often I relive them. By the way, my father was a mechanic all his life and I also miss stopping at the garage on my way for school to get a nickel from him so I could buy a coke at the drug store. Kenneth G. It is in the package and is in mint condition and does not have a price sticker on it (rare).
