There are two scenes that come to mind where Andy Griffith's humorous reaction comes out vs. Sheriff Taylor's slightly lesser grin and laugh: When he and Barn are dragging Ernest T. out of Mrs. Wiley's social and ET grabs onto the doorframe to resist; at Howard's first shindig in his newly redecorated bachelor pad, when Helen is cutting a rug with Emmett and Goober punches him in the arm in utter enjoyment! Why did Andy Griffith Drop the Accent and was Aunt Bee Politically Incorrect?
I never learn why it was Andy Grifith by early 60s dropped his famous hillbilly backwoods image made famous in No Time For Sergants.When the Mayberry Series debuted in 1960 the image was intact then in a year he settled in without the accent and the crackerbarrell physlosophy.Personally to me seeing him evolved to a more straight playing comic performer was a stroke of luck.I have among my 2000 videos 400 episodes of one of my all time tv shows What's My Line an american tv insitution from 50s and 60s.Andy on his 1957 stint as mystery guest is a sheer joy a cut up top up and coming comedian .He brought the house down with his backwoods accented humor.Fast forward to 1965 and 1967 guest shots he is a grimmer more sedated somber actor comedian we came to love.If anyone knows why he changed his persona please let me know.I'm just curious.Either way Andy is still just great a seasonial pro On Aunt Bee. Mention Goobers Contest there was another scene Tvland has edited out and I'm guessing its due to the changing of times.Aunt Bee won 5.00 at Wallys Station .Prior she told Opie she never won anythng in her life.Opie figured if you win something in a raffle you only have to donate it to the Church.Aunt Bee reminded him. Criticizing the Church was sacrilege.Was she politically incorrect by todays standards by todays standards that line is always deleted.if so I've see this before.Gary Coleman for instance in. A 1977 appearence on The Jeffersons in a memorable episode. Before he went on to Diffrent Strokes said to George Jefferson You must have been a Retard.these days the line is omitted and now thru redubbing he says You must have been rattle brained.Just changes in the poltical climate.its not a complaint .far from it its just an observation of times changing.I like any healthy feedback on both topics.And with that as my friend Col Tim once said. Hey my Mayberry Nuts! I am s happy. Just got a new verizon phone Venus and to my surprise was able to get THE FISHIN HOLE ringtone added to it. I went to PhoneZoo to get it. It said it was free, but I guess I'll wait a month to see. My old phone was a cheapy and couldnt get the ringtone, that might be some folks problems to why they cant get it, that was mine for awhile. I am thrilled to report a NEW sighting of our female Schwump-like Nice Dress Nellie. I looked at her website http://www.mayberry.info/history/index.php?title=Nellie and noticed it is not listed there. Instead of asking folks to guess (Aw, I can't guess), I'll just tell ya. In Banjo Playing Deputy (episode #159), she is walking on the sidewalk while Jerry Miller is supposed to be helping the 5 children cross the school crossing at the corner of Haymore and Rockford Streets. You have to look very closely to see her. So, add episode #159 to the list, compliments of Nellie's background pal Mr. Schwamp.
