Things to do in Mayberry

2008-11-16 Thread Rick Gomer Gandy

Now I know that the price of gas is almost back to normal, However I would
still have to drive over to Wally's to fill up. 30 cents a ding is still better
then $2.25 a gallon...PS: I voted to keep the Mayberry City Jail;)

Trained noticer?

2008-11-16 Thread Sundale
Having been on this list for a relatively short period of time, I am not
aware of what it takes to be designated a trained notice. I am sure the
training is quite rigorous!

That being said, I really think that Opie, Jr. might be allowed to fast
track right to the trained noticer status for his spotting of the brown
(beer?) bottle.

residents, boiled dinners and Hawthorne Village

2008-11-16 Thread jlj9675
I believe Andy once said that he knew Howard in high school and that he kept
to himself (probably that clingy mother of his). I've seen some boiled
dinners refer to a beef brisket simmered with carrots, cabbage and potatoes.
Ken, what fishing piece from Hawthorne are you speaking of? My memory isn't
so good in this dept so it's preying on my mind! I got my drugstore too but
it doesn't really remind me of Walker's; but that's okay, if it says
Mayberry, I like to add it to my collection.

I'm not sure of the manufacturer and model but I posted some screen captures
on Mayberry Historical Society for the all the official car identification
notifiers out there. Also, if you have a look at the photos you may find the
answer to another question that has been asked before. Check it out.

Yrs here

2008-11-16 Thread April Hayes
Also, I usually ask you all this time of year to end your posts with how long
you've been with WBMUTBB. Thanks, and I appreciate it.

I know I had to join at the end of '97 or the beginning of '98, so I have been
around for almost 9 years. It is hard to believe all that has gone on in our
little corner of Mayberry in those yrs.

Goober as a boy in Mayberry

2008-11-16 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
In the Case of the Punch in the Nose, Goober is called in as at witness
of the original event and it was stated that he was just a boy (sitting
in the barbershop) when it happened. This is sort of a strange twist
because he is one of the few characters that was an unseen character
(talked about by Gomer) before he became a real character.

Good memory above by Aunt Bee of Orlando. The last reference I remember
to Howard was his first job at Mayberry Transfer Company.

I still say my thing to do in Mayberry would be to train with Sarah and
be her backup operator. I work for a phone company and I am not as
good a tool man as Mr. McBeevee to be a pole or tree man. So I'd work
the switchboard for a while and learn all kinds of stuff.

When Sarah came back on duty, I would just sit on a bench in town and
wait for Mr. Schwamp to come by and smile, or Jud and Chester to tell
stories about Barney or Floyd to discuss Presidential history.

Re: Aunt Bea's car

2008-11-16 Thread Rich Cosgrove
The 1966 Studebaker Daytona was the personal car of actress Frances
Bavier, who portrayed Aunt Bea of Sheriff Andy Taylor in television's
Andy Griffith Show. Miss Bavier, a New York native, died in 1989 at
the age of 86. She lived her last 17 years at Siler City, N.C., about
35 miles east of Denton FarmPark.
Her furniture, the car and other property were brought by moving van
in 1972 from California to the home she bought in Siler City. She
obtained a North Carolina driver's license and drove the car to the
grocery, bank and post office. In later years, she employed a
chauffeur who tried to convince her to get a newer car. Miss Bavier's
preference for her beloved Studebaker was never swayed.
It was produced in the last year of the Studebaker brand, assembled
in Canada with a six-cylinder engine made by Chevrolet and labeled
Studebaker Super Skybolt Six. Miss Bavier bought it new in
California during her residence there in the role of Aunt Bea.
The car is owned by Denton residents Brown Loflin and Sean Bingham.
They paid $20,000 for it June 2, 1990, at a Raleigh auction of
property the actress bequested to the benefit of the state university
system's Center for Public Television.

Richard Cosgrove ( I got this info from one of the websites listed
below).

If you click on either of the two websites, you can actually see Aunt
Bea's car. It is not in the best shape.

Boil Dinner

2008-11-16 Thread Erin Johnston
HI folks,

In my neck of the woods.. a boil dinner can be anything but its all boiled.
Usually ours consist of

fish, veggies, potatoes, rice, and milk or juice,

its tasty and there is PLENTY of humidity in your house
it makes for dandy sleeping weather.

Goober and Howard

2008-11-16 Thread Paul Mulik
We know Goober lived in Mayberry when he was 5 (The Case of the Punch in the
Nose) so it's safe to assume he grew up there, and in Howard's first episode
(The County Clerk) Andy tells Helen that he went through high school with
Howard.

Paul Mulik

My daughter and I were wondering if Howard and Goober grew up in Mayberry,
or moved to town as adults?
