dramatic moment & pet names
One of my favorite dramatic moments was Miss Ellie singing "Away in a Manger" in the Christmas Story--brings tears to my eyes everytime. Also we had a calico cat named Juanita Beasley (nobody ever saw her so who is to say she didn't look like a cat!) Her first litter was Miss Ellie and Floyd. We think the father was a orange cat with red blood shot eyes named Otis Campbell. We had a Skippy and Daphne and Opie Taylor Sr. Even a Miss Rosemary. When Daphne had Andy and Barney, we kept Barney because he was Juanita's grandson. He is now 10 years old. Since the show is filled with love a music, my first runner-up: The duet (Andy & Ellie) singing Away In A Manger. My winner: After the Darlings finish playing and Charlene singing There is a Time, Andy's comment, "I believe that's about the prettiest thing I've ever heard". I'm clutched. Gary A. High Drama!
(regarding dramatic moments in TAGS) -- I recollect a fine piece of high drama occurring in the episode "High Noon in Mayberry". The great Leo Gordon (playing Luke Comstock) coming into town w/that shotgun and how Bee was frightened and confronted Andy about her worries. Even more so, when Andy started checking out his pistol and was giving serious thought to the whole matter before Comstock showed up at his house. When Comstock finally started to pull that gun out of its case once inside Andy's house WHOA BOY!! Heavy duty, to say the least. Great classic episode! Good Old Harry
I would like all you nice folks to know that Digest Member Harry Brewbaker and I exchanged some wonderful emails last night and had a great visit down memory lane and all because of this wonderful Digest. Harry and I shared our thoughts about our favorite dramatic moments that we share which led to other discussions. I had told Harry how I liked to use old pictures of my hometown when I do my Mayberry Power Point presentation so what did Harry do? He sent me a link to a fabulous site which contained numerous old photos of his hometown of Roanoke VA. I had an enjoyable time visiting Roanoke as it once was. I love nostalgia so those pictures were extra enjoyable to me. Thank you again Harry for taking the time to share your thoughts and photos with me. You are a real Prince and a true Mayberryite. Now whenever I hear Barney say Harry Becktoris, I will think of Harry Brewbaker. Cora
Cheri, I got curious about Cora and tried to look her up. I saw Cora's Country Cookbook written by Margaret Hamilton who played the wicked witch of Oz in the movie. I didn't see her name in the TAGS database though. I must say looking at the picture on the book cover, she'd fit right in Mayberry. She's wearing an apron and is holding a tasty looking pie, you'd never guess her as someone who'd employ flying monkeys. Subject: Cora To: wbmutbb digest <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Hey Mayberry Nuts--does anyone remember a cook named Cora?? My friend? gave me a cookbook, "Cora's Country Cookbook" the other day and insisted she was on TAGS.? She said that Cora was is a pie contest with Aunt Bee.? I have never seen her or heard of her but just agreed (kinda) with my friend and took the book.? I cant find her last name or anything in the book.? Who knows-I must say I dont know everything about TAGS thats for sure.? Does anyone remember her? Thanks-and have a Mayberry Kinda Christmas Cheri---A True Mayberry Nut I don't remember a Cora, but there was Clara and Flora; maybe she got them mixed up! Also, I believe my favorite most dramatic moment on TAGS was when Peggy and Andy were dating, and Opie threw away the note so Andy and Peggy wouldn't meet up. When Opie and Andy are on the porch, Andy puts Opie on his lap and explains to Opie that no body will ever be able to make Andy love Opie any less. I especially like the part about taking Barney to the dance - kind of makes me chuckle in between tears. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
another dramatic moment
I think one of mt favorite "dramatic moments" i.e. tear jerker , is in the episode of Opie loosing the 50 yard dash. He comes in the Sheriff's Office and walks up to Andy and says, "Pa, I don't want you to be disappointed in me..." And then Andy swallows hard and gives Opie a big hug. Gets me every time. Also, as far as pet names, we had a dog named Thelma Lou, who we lost a couple of years ago. We recently obtained a couple of young kittens , one male and one female, for my kids. One day while we were trying to come up with some names, my little girl was holding the female and she said how about Charlene? And immediately my little boy said "Yeah, and we'll name the boy Dud The rest is history.. Steve in Arkansas -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter. "The Cinnamon Bear"
I'm a fan of old time radio, and I heard for years about the annual children's serial, "The Cinnamon Bear," rerun every year on radio since its premiere in syndication in 1937. Only this year did I actually start listening to it and I found it to be surprisingly delightful. I'm enclosing a webpage where you can download the episodes, designed to be heard every night from November 29th to Christmas Eve. It concerns two children looking for the silver star for the family Christmas tree, and they end up in an enchanted land with the Cinnamon Bear and the Crazy Quilt Dragon, among others. Why am I bringing this up here? Because one of the many talented character actors to provide vocal talent for the show is our own Floyd the Barber himself, Howard McNear. He first appears as Samuel the Seal in episode #6 and later plays Slim Pickings the cowboy. _http://www.archive.org/details/thecinnamonbear_ (http://www.archive.org/details/thecinnamonbear) Dixon **Make your life easier with all your friends, email, and favorite sites in one place. a dramatic moment
This is my first message on here after lurking for about a year. I hope I'm doing this correctly. A couple of dramatic moments that stand out for me 1-The Christmas episode with Ben Weaver outside the jail looking in and then Andy coming out and putting 2 and 2 together that Ben is lonely on Christmas 2-When Otis is given the "hero award" and gives his speech and then gives the award back to the mayor. 3-The" Barney in the choir" episode where Gomer comes back in and sees Barney up on the stage sadly singing. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Mayberry Daze
At the next Mayberry Days, weather permitting, we should all gather and have the CEO of the digest give us a pep talk! Then we could present him with the keys to a brand new Cadillac! Then it would be up to him to find the one the keys fit!! I did that to a preacher we had one time when he retired and everyone got a big kick out of it. But I think we need to wait until the 20th year and present him with at least a Westclox Scottie, or an Ingraham or some big name like that! I had a Scottie one time and it kept perfect time until my mother ran it through the wringer and that kinda done it in!! All funnin' aside, Mr. Newsome has done a fantastical job running this here digest and the side items as well. He actually works 25 hours a dayhe gets up an hour early every day to do it. Y'all have a grand day and laugh much, laugh often. CameraNutt **Make your life easier with all your friends, email, and favorite sites in one place. Try it now.
