What did Barney and Andy drink when they visited the Esquire club? And when Andy and Barney were in the big city in the episode where Barney tags the house detective as a jewel thief, does it mention what Andy drinks? I know he asked for a steak, baked potato and green beans while Barney had snails and brains. I'd like to add my opinion to The Untrained Voice's fan fiction. It was such a good story line that in my head, that will be fixed as the reason why Opie's mom died. Now here is a question for all you medical people out there. At the time Opie would have been born, would medical science be advanced enough to have been able to save Maggie? Would she have known that pregnancy would be a risk for her heart condition? Would she have know that she had inherited a heart condition? It's preying on my mind. I remember thinking it odd one time when Aunt Bee mentioned some homemade wine that Andy made...Was it the episode with Frank and the blamed grading book? Can't remember for sure, but I do know Aunt Bee was trying to point out Andy's talents. Didn't show them drinking the wine, but I just thought it strange that the sherrif in a dry county was making wine. Andy partook in drinking a draft beer at the restaurant he and Miss Peggy went to when she tried to get Andy to have snails. he also took a glass when Otis received recognition for his ancestor Nathan Tibbs. He drank the spray when the Morrison's still was smashed and he tested the water when Barney and the Mayor got drunk off the water jug in the courthouse. Not sure if he had any veshee swaa that the visiting teacher brought to dinner. Andy and alcohol
Andy may have had a sip now and then, but he was a man of moderation and common sense.I remember when Anje and Barn went to the big city, Barney thought andy packed a bottle — You think of everything, he said with a wide grin.But i believe it was pickalilly (spell?) relish.Andy enjoyed a taste of moonshine as Barney smashed the still, ordered a beer with Peggy and was present at the mayor's office and with Goob at the restaurant when booze was served.He and Barn also talked of taking the Fun girls out to a place where beer was served and another place where they let you take a bottle in.It's clear Andy was no tea-tottler but equally evident he had sense when to indulge and went to pass.And there weren't a lot of chances. The good thing about Otis was he lapped it up so fast no one else had much of an opportunity to get some firewater.Sorry about the typos. I had a couple glasses of Christmas cheer this morning.
