Squad Car info

2009-07-06 Thread Bob DeWitt
Okay folks, I'm sure someone here will know this. I'm trying to get a
definitive answer on how may different models and years were the Sheriffs Car
on the show. I always thought they had a new model every year and they were all
Galaxies. I was watching the 6th season and see a Ford Custom. Also, was there
a model 1960 through 1968 or did they have some on for more then one season?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

mealtimes at the HOTEL

2009-07-06 Thread Kurt
My take on the HOTEL meal times is this.  I don't think many N. Carolina farm
families could afford to eat at the HOTEL or anywhere away from home. Those
mealtimes were for citified folks who were staying at the HOTEL.  Others went
to the Snappy Lunch or the Bluebird Dinner where food was more affordable.

Watching #16 today, "Andy Saves Barney's Morale," there is a scene on the
porch of the hotel (small as it is) with Jud and Chester playing checkers.
Behind Chester is a sign detailing the times of the meals at the hotel.

I don't recall such a sign in other episodes nor do I recall any mention of
food being served at the hotel.  Plus, to me, the sign does not properly
portray small town NC in the 60s.  First of all, it notes Breakfast, Lunch,
Dinner.  Back in those days, we were more likely to call them Breakfast,
Dinner, Supper.  Breakfast didn't start until 8:00.  Heck, in a small,
agricultural town like Mayberry, breakfast would have been over before 8.
And Dinner (Supper) wasn't served until 7:00.  Again, the last meal of the
day would have been over well before 7.

I guess the prop dept didn't know any better

backdrops and Paris

2009-07-06 Thread Victor Friskey
I was watching 'Andy's Rich Girlfriend this morning and as Peggy is standing in
the doorway of the courthouse questioning Andy it looks like a big screen
behind her.
It certainly doesn't look like a building across the street. Almost looks like
she's standing in a closet. Another thing when they are in the restaurant and
she comments how New
orleans is like Paris. Andy asks, 'You've been over there?' end if
conversation. I wonder
why he didn't talk about his tour in France. seems like it would have been a
good ice
breaker or conversation piece.

wallys

2009-07-06 Thread wade c
I'm a big fan of wallys and I like to learn details on it , I would love to buy
it one day and move there and make mayberry my home town.
I have a question about wallys, at the end of the island where the gas pumps
are there is a box on a small pedestal, what is that used for?

Andy's long sleeves

2009-07-06 Thread Debbie Rauch
Has anyone ever noticed that Andy always wears long sleeves? I was
watching "Bargain Day" last night and the scene where Aunt Bee was on the back
porch "sitting" with the freezer and Opie comes outside without a shirt on
(naked savage!) because it is SO HOT, Andy has long sleeves on. Several times
during this episode they mention how hot it is. I also noticed on other
episodes where the hot weather is mentioned that he always wears long sleeves.
I guess maybe they didn't have summer & winter uniforms back then.
