long sleeves
Long sleeves were the norm when I was growing up in the south in the fifties and sixties. I don't ever remember a man wearing a short sleeved shirt to church until late 60's. My Daddy's security police uniforms were long sleeved, and it got HOT in Pine Bluff. Sometimes when watching clips of old news reels of baseball games; in the dead of baseball season, when it was hot, hot, hot...the men were in suits, even! An old timer told me years ago that long sleeves were cooler (before we had air conditioning). They said that when a person sweated, the sleeves got wet, then it made the person cooler when /as it evaporated. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Carnival Time
It is time for our annual visit to the Northern Wisconsin State Fair and the big carnival. I am taking my wife tomorrow and I have a big day planned. I am hoping to win her a cupie doll, a ceramic pelican or a percolator at the shooting gallery. I hope to win myself a razor and one of those little naughty peek show things. But before we go I am going to stop by a friend's house to see if there is anything wrong with my eyes. He is a teacher so he would know. I am also planning on taking in the exotic dancer show a few times. After all a buy can't get too much culture. I think I will wear my Mayberry deputy uniform if case I come across any purse snatchers. But they have to be careful and not hit me because I have glasses. So you can see we have a great day awaiting us. We might even stop by the 4-H building and watch the pickle judging to see who gets a blue ribbon. I am going to take along a bottle of hand sanitizer in case I get rooked into being a judge. "Sometimes I wish I were a kid again." Re: Mayberry squad cars
Bob, I and another contributor to the Internet Movie Car Database now have all eight of the squad cars on that site, 1960-67, and identified.? He contributed the '63 and '64 and I chipped in the rest. Here's what we have, according the info contributed by the site's regulars: 1960 Ford Fairlane 1961 Ford Fairlane 1962 Ford Galaxie 1963 Ford Galaxie 1964 Ford Custom 1965 Ford Custom 1966 Ford Custom 1967 Ford Custom There was never ever a '68, in fact the '67 can even be seen over Andy's shoulder at the train station, in the 1968 finale, "Mayberry R. F. D." The 1960 was used for part of the 1960-61 season then replaced by the '61.? From there they appeared to go by calendar year until the '64, which premiered about a third of the way through season four and stayed on for all of season five. Season six used the '65 Ford Custom, the first to be seen in color.? Season seven began with the '66, then switched halfway through the season to the '67 which stayed on through the end of the next season/series in general. So the least used squad cars would probably be the '60 and '66 models (we never even saw the taillights of the '66).?? And the longest/most used were probably the '64 and '67.? For my money the '61and '63 are the most memorable, because of their many juicy roles from dramatic (running lights and siren after the lady speeder and the gold truck) to the hilarious (Barney's "citizen's arrest," and the time he escorted that lady to the post office right across the street). TVLand and long sleeves
I went on TVLand.com and managed to sign the forum (I'm practically computer-illiterate) so hope it helps. As for Andy's long-sleeves, it took years for me to convince my beloved otherwise; it was due to his years on the farm and in the Navy, where they just rolled them up in warm weather. Once he tried, he loved short-sleeved polos the rest of his short life. You never know! Aunt Bee of Orlando ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Re: Andy's long sleeves
> > Has anyone ever noticed that Andy always wears long sleeves? Good question. I've noticed (as I'm sure others have) that in season one and (I think) a few times in season two Andy has the sleeves of his uniform rolled up to expose his forearms. But I've hardly ever, or never, noticed that later in the series. Of course, I can't ever remember Barney's uniform sleeves rolled up, but that would go against his buttoned-down uniform appearance. Also, when they're out picnicking or whatever, Barney often wears his short-sleeved button-down shirt untucked, whereas Andy still seems to prefer a long-sleeved button-down, tucked-in, without the sleeves rolled up or anything. (Maybe some trained noticers can point out more details and what I've missed.) Maybe Barney is just a "work hard, play hard" type of guy. He likes to look neat in his uniform around the office, or with the old salt-and-pepper at a dance, but when he's "bachin' it" at Mrs. Mendlebright's or at a picnic he takes it easy with the dress. Andy's style of dress doesn't fluctuate as much; his favorite garb for a casual date seems to be his shirt (with or without tie) and sweater vest, and he only wears the blue suit on more formal occasions. A question for the lucky ones who have seen Mayberry RFD: what does Andy wear in his wedding to Helen? What about Barn? -a deceitful wretch hiding out in Oxford, Ohio (the Nashville of the North) ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Guest characters
Can you think of any characters that made only one appearance, but that you'd really hoped would be on again? This question came to me when I was watching the Ed Sawyer episode. One of my favorites. Why did he not re-appear? He bought the gas station, he called on Lucy Matthews. Curious, curious, curious. Actually I would love to see Lucy Matthews again, too. -- Ted http://image30.webshots.com/30/7/71/17/231177117EjadLZ_fs.jpg ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

TvLand
With all the talk here recently of Tvland taking Andy off in the evenings, I thought maybe I could round up some TAGS fans to sign a request on the TVland to boards to bring back The Andy Griffith Show (along with Leave it to Beaver) to weekday evenings. Tvland took our beloved Andy off before and with all your help we were able to get it back on, maybe we can do this again! The more requests for it, the better the chance of having it return. As Barney would say, we got to nip it, nip it in the bud. http://forums.tvland.com/tvln/board/message?board.id=programcomments&message.id=31243#M31243 J A Mayberry State of Mind http://amayberrystateofmind.com When visiting Mayberry, don't forget to stop at Bert Miller's Roadside Stand ...No pushy salesman, no ringing doorbells.
