Play the Game Movie

2009-08-31 Thread Sue Doughty
My darling person and I went to see Andy's new movie - Play the Game -
yesterday in Lydia Crosswait's (sp?) hometown of Greensboro. We didn't
see Lydia anywhere, though. :-)

The movie was delightful and so funny. Andy did a great job! It was
also good to see Rance and Clint Howard in the movie.

You know, Aunt Bee's accent varied from time to time. I have a good friend
from New England who always finds that Aunt Bee's earlier episodes feature a
slightly Bostonian accent which later mutated into a southern accent. She
might be from the Back Bay! :-)

Four Two -J

2009-08-31 Thread colonialcott...@netzero.net
Was watching TAGS last night and Barney said something about commiting a
four-two-J. Andy says, "What's a four-two-J?" And now I can't remember what
Barney says. Anyone remember what a four-two-J is?
I might need that someday for the Mayberry Trivia game.

Mayberry Days Parade

2009-08-31 Thread brodahaver
For those of you attending Mayberry Days 2009, remember when you view the
parade on Saturday morning, Main Street wasn't always one way. For 'Andy
Griffith Day' in 1957 (when Andy was the focus of attention) his parade was
traveling in the opposite direction.

That's a good question! You know, the guy who played Asa (and Fred?) did sound
quite a bit like Howard McNear. That's one of the most hilarious
scenes...almost as funny as the "Attaboy, Luther!" and "Attaboy, Judge!" from
"The Ghost and Mr. Chicken." Speaking of which, they're planning on showing it
at the Main Street cinema in Mt Airy during Mayberry Days, unless it rains
(sounds odd), on Friday night (7pm), I think. Although I enjoyed the midnight
showing they did a few yrs ago on the Saturday night (with the sci-fi movie
starring Jean Carson that preceded it) as a double feature, this will be quite
nice. :-)

Frank Myers was one of the crew members, and there was?the episode where the
town wanted? to foreclose on a character named Frank Myers because his house
was in poor condition and he owed back taxes.

Speaking of trivia..who besides Mr. Griffith/Taylor used their own first
name on the series?? So far I can come up with one background actor.

movies and sleuthical

2009-08-31 Thread kim
"We didn't see Lydia anywhere, though." Sue, I guess you wouldn't because
Lydia confided to me that she hates going to the movies. She does enjoy TV
now and then, but movies have been known to give her a headache.

Also as to the word sleuthical, I think the only time that word is properly
used is when someone is on an airplane (with two complimentary drinks in
them).

Re: AUNT BEE LEARNS TO DRIVE

2009-08-31 Thread MAJJEFFREY
It seems to me that the road in front of the Taylor home was dirt in
several episodes. Wasn't it dirt when Gomer has to stand out of the front
seat
and lead the parade of cars needing "re-prs" back to Wally's? (as if
they wouldn't have known where to go had he not done so.)

Wasn't it dirt when Barney got his first car?
When the Darlings wanted to get Aunt Bee's muffin receipt and let Rodney
marry Helen?
When Malcolm rides up to ask the 'constable' for directions?

THROUGH THE MAGIC OF TVLAND, YOU CAN WATCH TV SITCOMS FROM THE
"HONEYMOONERS" OF THE 1950'S RIGHT UP TO THE PRESENT DAY. YOU CAN SEE A
GRADUAL DETERIORATION IN THE CHARACTERS' BEHAVIOR, BY THE TIME YOU GET TO
"ROSEANNE" AND "MARRIED WITH CHILDREN", OLD FASHIONED VALUES HAVE ALL BUT
DISAPPEARED. THERE'S ALMOST NO VALUE SYSTEM AT ALL. NOTHING IS ANYONE'S
FAULT, AND THE CHARACTERS NEVER TAKE RESPOSIBILITY FOR THEIR ACTIONS. AND NO
IS EVER "ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES". ONE THING ABOUT TAGS, ANDY AND AUNT BEE
NEVER HESITATED TO TELL OPIE OR EVEN OTHER ADULTS WHEN THEY SHOULD BE
ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES. BECAUSE BAD BEHAVIOR BY ONE PERSON REFLECTS ON THE
WHOLE FAMILY...SO LIKE ANDY SAYS..."ACT LIKE SOMEBODY..."

photos and another discrepancy

2009-08-31 Thread jlj9675
Ken and any others with interesting photos: if you can scan them into the
computer and show a link, I surely would appreciate seeing them too! I
detected a discrepancy about Goober's age: in the punch in the nose episode
it is said that he was 5 at the time of the incident, which was 19 years
ago; when he buys the gas station, he states that he is 35 and this age is
corroborated in the car show episode when he says he went to auto school 15
years ago, assuming 2 years in the Army. Boy, did he age fast in a couple
years LOL!!!

A 42-J is a character report. Barney wanted to run one on Orville Hendricks to
see if he was a serial killer since he was supposedly dating Aunt Bee at the
