Fat Little Mayor

2009-09-24 Thread Ken Anderson
I too am a great fan of Mayor Pike. His rolly polly physique and great
personality make him a very lovable character. And he is so good to his
daughter all the time. I always thought he and Aunt Bee would have made a
great match. Much better than she and Fred Goss. But then Mayor Pike had a
wife as we well know from when Andy talked about her singing without knowing
the mayor was underneath the hot towel in the barber chair. Why is it all
the great guys are always taken?

Illness and Envy

2009-09-24 Thread Harry Brewbaker
Forget Don's digest problems, my foot keeps falling asleep.I wonder what
causes that??

Oh, how I envy those of you who will be attending Mayberry Days. Alas, this
year as well it is scheduled on a weekend when my beloved Va. Tech Hokies are
playing a home game. Mt. Airy is a little over 2 hours from me and I have yet
to attend that great event. Everyone have fun and don't eat too many pork chop
samiches or drink too much pop.

Hey to Goober,

I wish we had a psychiatrist in town, I bet Barney would make a real good
study.

Dick Elliott

2009-09-24 Thread Sundale
Someone may have mentioned it previously, but one of my favorite Dick Elliott
roles was his appearance on I Love Lucy. He and his wife were visiting New York
City for the first time and were on top of the Empire State Building. Lucy and
Ethel, dressed as women from Mars (publicity stunt), appear and scare the heck
out of the couple. I can still hear and see Lucy looking at Dick Elliott and
saying, It's a moo moo, as if she were speaking Martian.

I think he also had a small role in the I Love Lucy episode that guest starred
George Reeves as Superman.

Brilliant

2009-09-24 Thread Dan Goodwin
In Mayberry Goes Hollywood, Dick Elliott delivers his line You're not going
to let the laugh at your little fat mayor. so matter-of-factly that it
ranks up there on my personal list of favorite lines.

The way Orville and the Mayor talk about our little fat mayor you'd think
it was almost a title.

The whole dialog is just brilliant.

Mayor Pike and Aunt Bee

2009-09-24 Thread Silvia Boosten
Didn't Mayor Pike and Aunt Bee appear together in the scene where Aunt Bee
is showing Andy's baby picture album in the Mayor's office?  I forgot which
episode this was?  The Hollywood episode maybe?

Recalling Mayor Pike-Elliot

2009-09-24 Thread tom kessel
thanks for the replies concerning Dick Elliot and Frances Bavier sharing
scenes. Oddly the mystery goes on. First up: King of Mayberry:maybe Frances
Dick shared a scene with the photo of Andy as a baby but did they exchange
dialogue and in the cell episode were they techinically sharing a scene
or wasnt she behind him or before him and still they didnt speak to one
another/ King youre right Frances probably forgot at her advanced age in
1971 but also she was right, they didnt exchange dialogue..Same goes for
cutting the tree. did they speak to each other or merely share a scene apart
from one another. The King and Frances are both right. Finally:Yes how odd
that Dick Elliots most treasured rememberance as an actor on film was the
classic Its A Wonderful Life 1946 as he sat on the porch? I saw him in far
more impressive speaking roles like today Witness To Murder as a landlord to
Barbara Stanwyck or Little Miss Broadway with Shirley Temple or in an Our
Gang short of as Clancy in the latter day Bowery Boys series or on tv in I
Love Lucy and Superman .In any event what a dear sweet man im hearing from
the few who wrote me about him in his pre Mayor Pike days. The same applies
to Parley Baer as Mayor Stoner but he had nearly 10 years on Ozzie Harriet
in a running role. They dont make great character actors as they did from
TAGS days do they folks? Remenber what Herbie Faye Hope Summer and Vince
Barnett told me that i told you kind gentle folks some time ago, Andy
Griffith was a caring thoughtful man who looked after the character actors
.Andy had a hand and rightly so in selecting the major and bit parts. Hope
thought he was the just about the greatest the way Andy had a hand in the
every day function that beared his great name TAGS 1960-68.And selecting
Dick Elliot was just one prime example. Im history. God Bless. Tom Kessel

Re: Mayor Pike

2009-09-24 Thread Jdean46
Looks like I agree with most of us Mayberry citizens as to our favorite
mayor. While Mayor Stoner's furious Barney! was priceless in the shoplifting
episode, I think Mayor Pike was hilarious. It took a little bit of courage
to portray a small town mayor like that at that timewishy-washy,
totally uncommitted to anything other that taking the safe route with the
voters. He could change course in the blink of an eye. I spent ten years as a
political cartoonist, and Mayor Pike was always in the back of my mind, making
me laugh. Still does, every time I see him on our show. Wish I could see
all of you who are going to Mayberry Days, and maybe next year I will make
it. Things seem to be getting better with the economy, and a friend of mine
has a nickel with the buffalo facing the wrong way that he is will to sell
cheap! This could be BIG!
All the best to you and yours,
Jimmy Dean
