There are at least 2 references to halloween that I can think of; The one episode STRANGER IN TOWN, when Barney talks about arresting 2 boys for ringing doorbells, and when Goober talks about being deputized to gaurd the cannon during halloween in TV OR NOT TV when the article Sheriff without a gun is featured. Halloween references
"I was going to comment that there were no Halloween references as far as I could remember, in Mayberry" Barney hauled three teenage boys in for knocking on doors one Halloween - he said this in response to Andy telling him he could not arrest Ed Sawyer for knocking on Lucy Matthews' door. Also, Goober was charged with guarding the cannon every Halloween. They didn't so much as get a grape in it. Leave it to Tvland to do as they like. Up tonight for three hours was: Politics Begins At Home with Aunt Bee going up against Howard Sprague.Very funnyHoward becoming assertive when its his turn to bolster his case. Floyd has a classic line "The boys got a lot of spunk.Reminds me of myself when i was his age" The great Leon Ames was in Senior Play with a rare fesity Anita Corsaut defending her decision.Again for insiders, gauge Jack Dodson eyeing Ames's reaction during the surprise play reversal. i love these little tidbits the camera isnt suppose to catch. Opie Find a Baby with Jack Nicolson .note the for heaven sakes, bathrobe Aunt Bee is wearing in the kitchen. talk about being LOUD. And Arnold that pesty kid is back. And here is a good spot to mention a Mayberry character ive never heard dicussed, the invisible Sarah the phone operator. Like Jenny from Lassie,we never saw her but we should check to see how many episodes featured SARAH.Finally:Big Fish in a Small Town ..classic scenes of Howard up at the lake calling out "Andy" and poor Floyd glued to his seat while the others run to Howards assistance.And the ending, ah Howard telling old Goob and Floyd about Sam asking for them. .the gullibility in Howard McNears Floyd is touching.The imagination of a child with the heart of an angel" thats a good way of describing Floyd Lawson.All in all for color episodes not a bad night.
