We're Everywhere!
References to our special piece of the world can be found everywhere. Today on the Bold and the Beautiful (soap opera) wealthy media mogul Bill Spencer was getting married in a small park across the street from his fiancees childhood home in a small California town. He commented to a friend that he should be sailing off on his yacht with the wind blowing in his new wifes hair and here he was stuck in MAYBERRY. Thanks Gary on Floyd Lawson
It warms my heart that someone picks up on a comment I make. I done extenstive research on this particular episode, Goobers Contest. It bears repeating the selected lines he uttered the given scenes.Yes no doubt everyone on TAGS knew this was Howard's exit. And he went out in in full glory. Again fans please follow my friendly advise. Look at the the classic full blown headshot of Howard McNear , so close up that you can see his full face fill the screen when he says the unforgettable line "I already ordered my shampooer with the free foam rinse." This line that closeup was beautifully detailed and executed. The writers knew this wasnt just a line but a special one shot full face summing up Floyd Lawson. They knew the full impact of that clip and line. Bravo Howard McNear. Lastly, regarding Elmo the Druggist. As I interviewed him several times in 71 ,he confirmed he was a druggist (I called it a pharmacist back then) .He said he was sorry to see his role go with the demise of Mayberry RFD. Werent we all. After all Vinnie should know if he was a druggist. Thanks Allan .Tom Kessel Col.Tims Protege Reject. -- Forwarded message -- From: tom kessel Date: Wed, Nov 11, 2009 at 9:59 PM Subject: Tape Recorder & Opies Group To: wbmutbb-ow...@wbmutbb.com Two goodies on tvland tonight. My good friend Herbie Faye in Tape Recorder. The line "boo" to Goober is very funny. Herbie was so appreciated he told me Allan when i spoke to him. He was a NY actor he met Andy in the 50s off of the Phil Silvers show a big hit .Herbies career was boosted appearing twice in 67 on TAGS .Opies Group hey I love Aunt Bees classic line "All that music in the world isnt worth getting electrocuted for."cracks me up as the kids smirk at her old fashion philosophy.Clara is great with her one word "Groovy" but folks this is the show where Andy Griffith gives perhaps his best dramatic line "Ill give him just enough Rope til he gets into trouble then he';; see," Wow what a wallop for Andy Taylor to excercise his dramatic muscles. And Aunt Bees stirring rection :OH I never Heard" Unusual in a comedy series but well played off brilliant to dramatic effect.Well done Andy&Frances. This is Tom Kessel Col.Tims Protege Reject.Bless you all. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Education
Wow!! Just like my barber told me, I just easily increased my health insurance deductible to $1000 to reduce the monthly charge from $784.23 to $510.13. Of course, you can't go to Barber College all that time without learning *something.* ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Mentioned on TAGS
Been real busy and got behind on my digest updates. Famous people from the 60's mentioned on TAGS. Has anyone mentioned Gregory Peck (the actor of the man) and Glenn Ford (Glenn Ford'in it all over the place)?? I am a civilian employee of a local Police Dept. and we have a detective named Glenn Ford. I don't think he's involved with bank security though. Oh, how about Gabby Hayes? He was one of Barney's favorites. Just watched the episode where Barney wonders who they got to replace him as choir soloist, Morton Downing or Kenny Baker. He also wanted to go to Skippy's and watch that George Raft movie on TV. I'm sure there a others that will come to mind later. Goober Beasley?
I apologize if this subject is a repeat but I just noticed yesterday that when Ange introduces the TV folks to Goober, he says his last name is Beasley. Is this the only occasion for a different name for Goober? It also occurred to me why the crooks were in such a hurry to complete the bank robbery. The hotel clerk would probably let it be known that the 3 of them came to town together and not a day apart as the tall man implied. Barney Jr. Impersonator
Allan, Years ago - probably in the mid-90s, there was a discussion here about a guy called "Barney Jr." who was/is a Barney Fife impersonator. I believe he also traveled with a "companion" Floyd impersonator, in a similar way to your interaction with David at Mayberry Days. They made an appearance in 1991/2 on Rick Dee's late night t.v. show, in which "Barney Jr." did his "Nip It" rap. Does anyone know if he is still impersonating, and I wonder if anyone has that on video tape? I might look through my stack of tapes to see if I did, in fact, tape it. On a related note, it would be wonderful to see all of the impersonators across the U.S.A. (and world), as they all have a slightly different take on the characters. Is there such a listing, etc.? Indeed, there was/is only one Don Knotts and Howard McNear, but the spirit of their giving is certainly reflected in all of the wonderful impersonations.
