Hubcaps Lesh and the Umbrella
I'm guessing that when she didn't have a broom handy she hit her "dear old Bernard" on the head with the umbrella. LOL! To most of the world she's "Grandma Esther Walton" but she'll always be "Hubcap Lesh" to me. American Flag in Mayberry
This posting about the American Flag in Mayberry got me to thinking about one of the big mistakes the producers of Andy made. Supposedly, the post office was across the street from the courthouse. One episode Barney gave Melissa Stevens a police escort to the post office, and then in the episode Citizen's Arrest, Gomer was seen coming out of the post office. However, at no time, did I ever see our American Flag flying over the post office. There is federal law, and the post master can get into a lot of trouble for not flying the American Flag. Strange, considering the last thing Barney and Andy ever did was to lower the American Flag. Orville Hendricks - Selling the best butter and eggs in Mayberry County. The most obvious place is right behind the sheriff's desk in the courthouse. I think Andy even touches it as a hint when Barney is trying to recite the preamble to the Constitution. I think there may have been some on display as well in the episode about the thieves trying to steal artifacts, with Warren and Goober hot on their trail and perhaps in an unassuming spot in one of the candidate debates we saw over the years. I remember the ending to the TV movie "Return to Mayberry" where newly inaugurated Sheriff Andy Taylor and Deputy Barney Fife are raising a flag on a flagpole. That struck me because there was never a similar scene on the original series, the show never beat patriotism over anyone's head yet we all knew the citizens of Mayberry dearly loved their country. Andy Smoking
If I remember correctly, an occasional sponsor of TAGS was Chesterfield cigarettes. Maybe they had a clause in the sponsorship contract that Andy had to smoke now and again. Just a thought. Harry in Salem, VA ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
American Flag
When Barney was reciting the preamble to the constitution to Andy, Andy took hold of the American flag in the courthouse and shook to give Barney a clue. I think too that people were waving little American flags when the gold truck went through Mayberry. Barney also had the flag on his "motorcicle" after he fixed it all up. Kids did the pledge of allegiance in school in the episode "Andy Discovers America". The American Flag in Mayberry
The American Flag was shown in the closing credits in "Return to Mayberry." Andy and Barney are either taking it down or putting it up after Andy was re-elected sheriff. I loved this scene so much because I always thought of Mayberry and those two as in the past, and this scene comfirmed things are fine in Mayberry, TODAY in 1986. American Flags
Barney's high speed motorcycle had american flags on it the best I remember. That is a good question, I will have to think on that for a spell and get back to you if I find anymore. Steve ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
