What TAGS was Howard McNear's first appearance? I was asked that this morning
and could not come up with it. I know that Convicts at Large was the last
appearance before his stroke. And, I know his last show, which is the color
episode when Floyd wins the gas station prize. I have not had a chance to look
at my DVD's to find the show. Anyone know? And, which number episode is it?

Mary McGoon

2010-07-16 Thread DAVID QUINN

Being a fan of old time radio, I am aware that Mary McGoon was a regular on the
Bob and Ray show. However I am not sure of any phrase that Bob and Ray used
that Andy appropriated. The only one that comes to mind is "write if you get
work".

Speaking of old time radio, Andy was a big fan of radio. His early records
play like a radio show. Don Knotts relates his first meeting with Andy in his
book "Barney Fife And Other Characters I Have Known". Don says when he first
met Andy, Andy asked Don "Do you appear on the Bobby Benson Radio show?" In
fact Don did play the part of Windy Wales on the Bobby Benson show. That was
an indication that Andy was a big fan of old time radio, being able to
recognize Don just by his voice.

Orville Hendricks - Peddling Butter and Eggs. Several times when I took butter
and eggs to the Taylor household, Beatrice Taylor was listening to soap operas
on the radio. She was so worried about Cynthia.

I ordered Andy Griffith's book online a couple of weeks ago. The anticipated

it said the anticipated shipping date for my order would be July 19th. I am

Upcoming book

2010-07-16 Thread Ben Sandifer
I just learned yesterday of the upcoming biography "I Appreciate It: My
Life" with Andy Griffith and Jim Clark. Does anyone know the release date?
And with Ron Howard writing the forward, there's only one word to describe
this book - BIG ! I just hope the forward is really about Andy, and not
Arnold's dad.
