TAGS on my truck

2011-02-25 Thread Harriet Browder

Do any of you have TAGS related plates on your mode of transportation? If
so,let us know what you have.

I have a replica of the squad car's license plate and the frame says I'd
rather be watching the Andy Griffith Show on my Ford pick up. You'd be amazed
at how many people do NOT notice the frame and ask me what part of NC am I
from. But I'm not from there.I'm from Clearwater, Florida, aka Kelsy's
Woods, USA.

RE: TAGS tags

2011-02-25 Thread Good, Don
Concerning TAGS tags (get it?), when I had my squad car I had the Missouri
license plate JL-327. I know that Jack Fellenzer had it for Iowa several years
back when he lived there, and Jim Clark had it for Tennessee (Jim probably
still does). I do not know if anyone else in Missouri or Iowa currently has
JL-327; I'm not even sure if the law allows for the same vanity plate to later
be issued to someone else.
--

When I worked at a college in Kentucky for a few years, I noticed the JL-327
tag on a car during graduation weekend. It belonged to the parents of one of
our graduating seniors. And she was a goood student. I stopped 'em and told
'em I 'preciate it.

TV Land

2011-02-25 Thread PLV
To the person asking when TV Land is currently airing TAGS - here in the
Chicago area it's on with back-to-back episodes Monday thru Friday from 3PM to
4PM CST.

As a side note to the comment about TV Land being blocked by your computer -
although it's not blocked on mine, I did start getting warning messages about
unstable content every time I'd go to that Web site. So I just stay away now.

re: Car TAGS

2011-02-25 Thread Rusk, Thomas E SFC RET
As the proud owner of a 1961 Ford Fairlane (last year of the big Fairlane)
replica Mayberry Squar Car. I chose TAGS 61 as my South Carolina license
plate. After all it is a license tag in the South and of course we all know
what TAGS stands for.

And hey, Mayberry Comes to Westminster, SC continues to gain momentum. Sure
hope a lot of you Mayberrians are planning on joining us for a fun two days
April 15 16. Joining us are Darling boy Rodney Dillard, David The Mayberry
Deputy Browning 8 other Tribute Artists, plus the VW Boys. You might want to
make your lodging reservations soon as there's only a couple nice hotels in our
area; Best Western and Jameson Inn in Seneca, a couple of nice B B's nearby
plus several hotels in Clemson, which is about 15 miles from the event.

I also have a car tag frame that says 'I'd Rather be Watching The
Andy Griffith Show'. It generates conversation with strangers about
how that was when TV was good and those that know me, know my car.

I too have the license plate frame and JL327 plate on the front of my
truck too. I also have the I'd rather be fishing with Andy and Opie frame
on
the back plate too, and like Harriett, I too get asked what part of NC I'm
from, but I'm not from there, I'm from my hometown of Mayberryer...I
mean Indianapolis, Indiana. I think I may have to buy a new plate frame
for the back though, this one is broken from all the rear-endings I've had
the last few years.

Disappearing badge.

2011-02-25 Thread lovndogs2

In all the time I've been watching TAGS I'm always surprised when I can catch
a goof. In the Gentleman Dan episode he (Dan Caldwell) tells Barney to come out
of the cell so he can watch Barney. As Barney comes out of the cell he's not
wearing his badge but a second or two later when he's out of the cell he has
the badge on. Shortly after that scene the badge is gone again and then
reappears. It's fun to watch for goofs, like solving a puzzle.
Also, I've been looking for the Return to Mayberry from '85 show but haven't
been able to find it. I didn't see it at Weaver;s, unless I missed it. Anyone
know where to find it?
Best to all,
Barb

License Plates and Badges

2011-02-25 Thread Ken Anderson

I have North Carolina JL-327 for my squad car but cannot use them in
Wisconsin. I used to just clip them on over my regular collector plates at
car shows, but quit doing that as I had to explain too many times that I was
not from North Carolina.

I do have B FIFE on my Saturn.

Concerning those of you asking about getting a badge like I have. I talked
with the company and you would have to go to their website and design it
like I did. I don't recall the number of the badge that I selected so you
would have to just search through them all and find the style that I used
and then build your badge around that. The website is
www.EPoliceSupply.com. What I did was take a good screen shot of Barney's
badge and then compare that to the ones you could custom build from.

Five

2011-02-25 Thread Tom Lawrence

Five. That's what it said on the back of Barney's watch in a classic
episode.Five.That's how many Emmy awards Don Knotts won for his work on The
Andy Griffith Show.Five.That's how many years it's been since the great Don
Knotts passed away. His comic genius was recognized during his career and life
and our admiration will only grow. Here's what I wrote when he passed. He was
great and I miss him and thank him for all the laughter and insight.
It's not unusual I was watching an Andy Griffith Show episode Saturday night.
I had just returned from some friends' home and caught the final 10 minutes of
perhaps the best episode the series ever produced, Three Wishes for Opie.
But it was eerie to learn a few minutes after the episode ended that Don Knotts
had died a day earlier at the age of 81. I knew he was ill and expected the
news, but I was still saddened by his passing while I was appreciative of his
work.
It's fitting to see his best work and remember his genius at the end of his
long and productive life. That's right, genius. That's not too strong a word.
Three Wishes for Opie is a precursor to The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, the
wonderfully funny Knotts movie, perhaps the best movie he produced in his
career. Both are silly in a delightful manner and have small moments of
suspense. Knotts and Griffith worked together to create both shows; their
small-town Southern upbringings helped the friends craft the brilliant series,
which has never stopped airing and left prime time in 1968 as the No.1 show on
TV.
Neither man approached that height of popularity and brilliance again. I
personally feel Three Wishes for Opie is their best work. I have seen the
show many times but enjoyed the sly twists, the clever writings and the
brilliant comic faces that Knotts was able to create. He literally twisted his
face in Knotts.
Sure, I laughed again as I watched it. It's like a sunset, a pretty face or a
well-cooked steak; there is no limit to how many times you can enjoy it.
Knotts won Emmys, fame and riches playing that part and he deserved to. His
work as Deputy Barney Fife has been immortal since he created the role in 1960.
He left the series in 1965 to make movies for Disney but returned a few times
to reprise his greatest role as the shaky-handed, quick-shooting comic foil
with the good heart and bad aim.
Knotts did a lot of TV, film and stage work in the last 40 years of his life,
but he will always be known as Barney Fife. That was fine with him. It was sure
great for me and the other millions of fans of the show, the character and the
man.
And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what
you can do for your country.
