Fuzzy Moments
Dear Tags, Fuzzy moments I love are when Andy tells Aunt Bee that the baby is safe in her arms. When Thelma Lou and Helen look at Barney and Andy standing in front of the cave and say that they are both pretty great. When Charlene Darling sings There is a Time, when Opie and Mary Alice are in the backseat of the squad car and Opie holds her hand and says, they should of been together, all along. Last but not least, the scene of the gas station where Howard, Goober, Andy, Emmit? are sitting outside of the gas station at dusk and how peaceful and quiet it is and how Howard looks so content and peaceful and happy he is at home. Baths in Mayberry, Grumpy Andy, Mayberry Moment
I'm going to group three subjects into this one e-mail because I've been noticing that my e-mails are taking longer & longer to reach the Digest. 1) I happened to catch a rerun of "The Bookie Barber" episode this weekend and noted in the opening scene, after Opie has tried to explain that he hates getting his hair cut because the hairs drop down his neck & itch him, Andy tells him that he'll be able to fix that by taking a bath when he gets home. Opie is horrified that, now, he has to get a dreaded hair cut and take a dreaded bath! Cute scene, well played. 2) My personal opinion about the darker Andy who emerged in the color episodes is that he was tiring of playing the character and started letting his ennui show. Griffith wasn't diagnosed with the Guillain-Barre syndrome until the early '80s, so it's probably doubtful that he was experiencing any of its symptoms during the run of TAGS. 3) My Mayberry Moment - Saturday morning, I had returned from grocery shopping and was unloading my car in my building’s garage. An older woman (about my age, probably!) came walking in and got into a large, late-model sedan parked several spaces away from my car. I wasn’t paying much attention until I heard an odd sort of "chucka" sound come from her direction. I looked over in time to see her car more or less jump backwards out of its space; then it jumped forward at an angle; jumped backward again; and finally jumped toward the exit. Shades of Aunt Bee learning to drive! (Although I doubt this lady had the excuse of a manual transmission and having to learn how to work a clutch!) ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

Re: Contents of WBMUTBB Digest, Vol 12, Issue 206, Message 7
That would be understandable and sound plausable. However, not to be disagreeable but, Andy did not contract Guillaine-Barre syndrome until 1983 and was effected for seven months. At least that is according to the sources that I have referenced. -- Kim -- > > Message: 7 > Date: Mon, 11 Jul 2011 08:47:03 -0400 > From: Susan Blank > To: "wbmutbb@wbmutbb.com" > Subject: Re: Andya morning person > Message-ID: > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 > > I agree that Andy being grumpy with Opie practicing piano at 6 a.m. was > inconsistent with his character. Shwamp theory
Since Mr. Schwamp did not have any lines, I think he was not a member of the actor's union and was not allowed to say anything. That would also explain why he has no credits at the end of the show. And, maybe why absolutely NOBODY knows who he is. Not even his fellow actors remember his name. "It's not a whim if you put on clean underwear." Bee in New Concord, OH Brenda J. Re: Andy....a morning person
I agree that Andy being grumpy with Opie practicing piano at 6 a.m. was inconsistent with his character. However, I did notice that in the color episodes, he kind of turns into "grumpy Andy", as my husband says. I'm wondering if that had anything to do with his Guillaine-Barre syndrome and the pain he had with that. Then I'm thinking that Andy, the consummate actor, wouldn't have let his personal health issues interfere with his acting. Any opinions or information on this? Thanks! Andy--a morning person??? and corrections
I caught one of my favorite color episodes this week (yes I like the color ones..I don’t think TAGS “jumped the shark” when Don Knotts left) on TVland. It was the one where Opie was learning to play piano, and also play football. Once Andy learns from a former pro football player, Flip Conroy, that a young boy can have multiple interests, things appear to be at a happy ending. The epilog shows Opie practicing Piano at 6:00 AM and Andy wakes up all grumpy and asks him if he knows what time it is. Don’t you find this odd? Andy is usually one of the first ones downtown in the morning. He gets up and goes fishing early at times. He seems to be a morning person. It made a good story line, but in my opinion, was a little bit inconsistent. Did we ever see Andy sleeping in.. in the morning, other than when he was sick? The Untrained Voice. “I thought it was Andy who had the subscription to Police Gazette - he told somebody he had to cancel it because Barney had never been married – “ Lucille Lucille, I think you are correct on the line. I was recalling when Barney got his place at Mrs. Mendlebright’s…I thought he had a collection up there that he offered to loan out to Andy. Upon checking my facts I found it was really "true Blue Dectective" magazines that he had bound copies of. So I stnad corrected on Barney influencers. Speaking of fact checking, on One of Allan's Two Chiar No Waiting Poadcasts which was an interview with Ken Beck and Jim Clark..it was revealed that they wrote thier first book just from memory and broadcast episodes. no DVD, of course..but even no VHS!! That is amazing!! No wonder we were able to expand the list of Scwamp appearance from 8 to like 22. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
