The Choir and Andy's father

2012-01-14 Thread Harry Brewbaker
Dewey, I also enjoy watching that choir member smile.  I've always wondered if
he was supposed to or if he just couldn't help it.  There are several scenes
where Barney or Floyd are doing something particularly funny and you can see
Andy put his hand over his mouth to cover a smile.

The comment about Andy being raised by Aunt Bee but his father still being
around when he was 6 or 7 brought to mind my own father.  He was the youngest
of 8 born right before the stock market crash in 1929.  His mother died when he
was 6 weeks old and his father raised he and the ones who hadn't grown and
moved out until my father was about 5.  Then he and his remaining brothers and
sisters were sent to live with relatives because his father was a mean old son
of a gun.  My father was raised by a woman who even though she was in her
40's was his first cousin.  As far as my father was concerned, she was his
mother and her daughters were his sisters.

My grandfather lived to age 80 and passed in 1964.  I have memories of him
still being what everyone then called an ornry old cuss til the day he died.

Re: Andy's Boots

2012-01-14 Thread Albert A

Seems to me that Andy's boots were just plain old Wellingtons; there
might've been a reference to them on one of the episodes or in a book about
TAGS; can't recall just what.
Aunt Bee of Orlando -- - That's what I was thinking too, Aunt Bee.
Wellingtons. Years and years ago, there was a shoe repair shop down at the
local shopping center which featured Cats Paws shoe heels and soles. On the
shelves were lots of boots, some very Andy like, that were repaired but not yet
picked up by their owners.

smiling folks

2012-01-14 Thread jlj9675
Seems to me that there was a blurb in a book or interview article one time
wherein Andy said they used the crew as extras whenever they could so the
smiling choir member might've been a non-actor who just couldn't contain his
humorous reaction. I've noticed this in several episodes and most notably
with Andy when they were trying to haul Ernest T. out of Mrs. Wiley's house.
See if you can detect an Andy Griffith grin vs. an Andy Taylor one. Another
example is when Howard is having his swinging party in the bachelor pad and
he smacks Ange on the shoulder while Helen is dancing with Goober or maybe
Emmett. Those are priceless moments when his face changes (that's the actor
of the man or I guess the opposite).

Re: These boots are made for walkin'

2012-01-14 Thread Chris Nelson
Paul I checked my album and it's hard to tell. I scanned the cover at a high
resolution but the quality of the picture isn't that great so it makes it
hard to see any markings. (My copy is in pretty good shape) The best I can
tell is that the sole is leather and the heel is rubber. The heel has what
looks to be a square or a shield on it with a diagonal line going through
it. Maybe some good detective work can be done to figure something out from
that.

I remember my Dad wearing these exact same style boots for work during the
60's. I especially remember his pants leg getting caught on the top of the
boots just like Andy's does sometimes. They're definitely a short
Wellington-style boot. Engineer boots have an adjustable strap that goes
across the ankle.

Background actor in choir

2012-01-14 Thread Janet Anderson
Barney and the Choir/season 2...episode 20.There is a character in this
episode that
makes me bust a gussett.Andy is teaching Barney to sing really low into a dead
mic.
There is a guy standing to the left of Andy at practice and in the recital
itself.As Barney
is at the mic, this guy is grinning from ear to ear.He can hardly contain his
composure.
I always look forward to this scene. No speaking part, just a bunch of
grinning.Has
anyone else ever laughed at this guy?

Yes, Dewey, I notice him every time, and he always makes me smile, too. He's
so obviously having fun with the scene!

Nice Dress Nellie sighting?

2012-01-14 Thread Bobby Williams
I have been recording The Bob Newhart show on The Hallmark Channel, since is
comes on about 1:00 am. Last night I was watching one of the recorded episodes,
it was about Bob's birthday. The surprise party guests come out of hiding and I
really think one of them was nice dress Nellie. Did anyone else see this and
think it was Nellie?

Smiling in the background

2012-01-14 Thread Jeff Koontz
That is a classic scene, Dewey and the actors in the back do a good job of
showing they are in on the scheme and enjoying their time watching Andy and Don
act. I think it is one of the longest pieces of continuous dialog in any show
and feel that Andy makes the one mistake and correction to his lines in the 249
eps. It would have been interesting to have been on the set to see how many
takes were done to get that scene correct - or good enough to make the final
print.

I was watching an episode of Larry the Cable Guy just now (episode 16: Larry in

guessed it!) That'n makes me cry.

About thirty thousand Americans are injured by toilets every year.
Anyone have a theory on how in blue blazes so many people can
get hurt by a toilet?Curious.
